Mad Dash Sew-Along, Week 14

I’m losing track, getting off track, and getting confused about what week we’re on!!!

I didn’t get this posted last week, and had no plans to post this on Monday since it was a holiday, but I sure thought I’d at least have it posted yesterday — better late than never, right?

I’m struggling to find time to do all the things — haha!

If you’re making this quilt along with me, my being a week late with this post probably didn’t hurt anything, because there’s plenty of Sewing to do on this quilt!

My stockpile grows, and then I use out of it, and then I feel like I’m back at Square one — I feel like I’m sewing and sewing and getting nowhere. My sister said: “My Mad Dash has turned into a Slow Crawl.” Haha!

But . . . I know I’m making progress with every block I sew, and my quilt is coming along nicely. How about you? (Next week, I’ll have some more photos of some of the participant’s quilts. If you have any pictures of yours you’d like to share, send them in!)

And if you’re working on Section Three, I’m here today to walk you through that partial seam, in case you need a bit of extra information on exactly how it works.

There are a lot of partial blocks in Section Three. I got all mine made up:

And then I cut my filler pieces and gathered up all the blocks and parts needed for Section Three. In the pattern, there’s a list of everything you’ll need for each section at the beginning of each section’s instructions.

You’ll start Section Three by assembling the SIX portions that make up the entire section. Once you have those made, there’s a partial seam that joins four of those six sections together with one little square. Follow the instructions, and lay those four sections out with that lonely little square as shown:

The instructions in the pattern go step by step, and I’ll outline those here with photos, in the hopes it makes it even clearer for you. Sew the little square to the section to its right. You’ll sew the square only partway to the section — meaning, you sew it on from the top down, but stop sewing the seam when you’re halfway through it, and just leave it hanging:

Then sew the section above it to the top of the section with the little square attached:

Then sew the top Left section to the left side:

All that’s left is sewing the bottom left section on, and it gets sewn to the bottom of the top left section, including the little square:

It’ll look like this:

All that’s left then is to finish sewing the partial seam that includes the little square, and you’re all done.

That wasn’t so hard, was it?

You still have a few steps left to complete Section Three, but the hard part is over!

Here’s my finished Section Three:

Make sure you’re using your labels and marking each section and its upper left corner, so you’ll know where they go and how they’re turned in the finished quilt:

And that’s it for this week. Keep sewing!
