I made a cage Doll last summer and she has been sitting in Luminari Arts Gallery in Astoria, Oregon.  She got a little shop worn, missing her crown and she needed a makeover!  So she came home to be the pièce de résistance for my Featured Artist show for December First Saturday ArtWalk.

Poor Little Queen of Patience!  Time for an update!

She looked so fresh and pretty, but sitting in a busy shop takes a toll on fragile art!

The plan was to remove all the ephemera and replace it with glass candies and bracelet charms in Christmas themes.

The candy was easy to wire wrap with red 20 gauge wire.  I hooked the loop onto the bottom row of the cage skirt.  Then I used red wood beads to decorate the wire that held the charms.

Finally I finished the bottom with red bows for a dramatic flair with a little mylar garland.

The top of the doll was a complete remake.  The base of the doll torso was an Altoid Tin and I had to keep that in place because it was sturdy and kept the doll together.  I made my own top with heavy cardstock that covered the Altoid tin and used red felt pen to draw a waist.  I attached paper doll face and arms and covered the arms with red braid trim to represent her Christmas top.  I finished the waist with more mylar garland I got at Dollar Tree last year.

All that was left to do was add some sparkle with a broken rhinestone necklace.  She got a tiara, a shiny necklace and some accents at her sleeves.

I am happy how she turned out and hopefully she will go to a good home this Christmas!
