Knitting with love

A few months ago we found out my father has cancer. It was pretty scary, for me, especially given that he is the only parent I have left because my mother died of cancer almost ten years ago. He has since had surgery to remove it and all looks good, but he is having eight rounds of chemo. He just completed round three. He goes every other week.

With all that was going on, I have been thinking a lot about my Dad lately. The other day I was grocery shopping and I saw these Hot Dogs and could not believe they were real. When I was a little girl my father used to sing the Armour Hot Dogs song, among others, during long car rides. For some reason I still, to this day, have the lyrics memorized. But I always had just thought it was some crazy song my Dad made up or changed the words to, until I saw the hot dogs in the store last week.

So then today I was curious, if the hot dogs are real, were the lyrics real? So I YouTubed it and found the original commercial!! I love it, although I realize these days some might find if offensive. I am not one of those people, I think it’s great.

The lyrics:

Hot dogs, Armour Hot Dogs. What kind of kids eat Armour Hot Dogs? Fat kids, skinny kids, kids who climb on rocks, tough kids, sissy kids, even kids with chicken pox love hot dogs! Armour hot dogs. The dogs kids love to bite.

Anyway, so I am knitting my Dad a hat. He asked me to. I have decided to go with a gray hat with blue stripes. I could make it neon pink and yellow and he would wear it just so he could tell people his daughter made it for him. Seriously. Knit with love. Because he is losing his hair due to the chemo treatments.
