How to Draw Cute Animals in Action

A mouse, a bunny or even a hedgehog. Have you tried to Draw Cute Animals with children in the art class? It is easy to draw a fluffy small animal and it always makes the picture more interesting.

But it is just not enough to draw the animal doing nothing. Animals in action helps the painting to tell a story. Children’s book illustrators do them so well.

Anita Jeram

We meet one such artist, Anita Jeram, who illustrates her children’s picture books and captivates even adults to her stories.

Anita Jeram, an illustrator from England is best known for her modern classic, Guess How much I Love You. Cute rabbits, mice, cats and dogs convey the stories in a humorous way. Other than illustrations for books, she has painted beautiful greeting cards too.

She currently stays and works from Northern Ireland. It is needless to say that she loves animals and her active involvement in animal rescue make her feel and talk through her paintings with these animals.

“Animals are my greatest inspiration,” Jeram says. “Even if a story is about a human situation, I try to use an animal to tell it.”

Do you remember Andrea Doss and her adorable paintings of these furry animals?

Art lesson

Today we sketch these small animals. Have a look at Anita Jeram’s paintings first.

You will need some micro-tip pens, watercolours and some watercolour paper.

First get the basic shape of the animal. Draw the animals from the front and side views. Once you are comfortable drawing them, start getting some action. Sketch as many as you can. I could not stop myself drawing the bunny with her baby.

Mice playing with a cup of tea, or mother and child bunny having a rocking time, you can think of a situation and start sketching them. Add a small phrase to support your drawing.

You will definitely love sketching these animals.

We are trying here with the bunnies, cats, dogs and the mice.
