CFAD unveils statue of Beato AngelicoCFAD unveils statue of Beato Angelico

Last April 28, 2016 (Thursday), on the occasion of the 405 TH  founding anniversary of the University of Santo Tomas, the College of Fine Arts and Design unveiled a sculpture of its patron, Beato Angelico, the patron of artists, in front of the façade of the edifice named after him.
Officiating the unveiling were the Acting Rector, the Very Rev. Fr. Fr. Richard G., OP, PhD, and the Regent of the College of Fine Arts and Design, Rev. Fr. Edgardo D. Alaurin, OP, SThD.
The sculpture was a collaborative work composed of the following artists: Lead Sculptor Asst. Prof. Benedicto B. Ducat; Assistant Dean M. Romeo Castro; Mr. Roman S. macaisa; Mr. Pedro Felix Garcia; Painting Department Chair Asst. Prof. Danilo Santiago; Ching Alumni Eunice and Mark Reyes; Joel Janoba masons, Nelson Villanueva and Claudio Subido; Facilities Management Office Director Fr. Rolando M. Castro, OP; Facilities Management Office personnel; members of the Society of Missionaries of Tomasinong Arts (SANTOMAS); and Regent Fr. Alaurin. Painting alumna Lolita Valderrama Savage, generously supported the project.

Joining the sculpture were the original bio foundation stones. When the College of Fine Arts and Design was founded in 2000 as a College, there was a simple but solemn ceremony where the then Fr. Rector Tamerlane Lana, OP, blessed several blocks of white stone arranged like a sculpture as a marker for the event. When the Quadricentennial Pavilion was constructed, they were transferred to the corner of the Engineering building.
