Host Institution(s): University Grants Commission (UGC) introduced Post Graduate Indira Gandhi Scholarship for Single Girl Child 2017-18 to promote girls education. 

A brief description of Scholarship:
University Grants Commission (UGC) invites applications for Post Graduate Indira Gandhi Scholarship for Single Girl Child 2017-18 with an aim to compensate direct costs of girl education to all levels especially for such girls who happen to be the only girl child in their family.

Aim of Post Graduate Indira Gandhi Scholarship:-
The objectives of the proposed scheme are :

a) to support the postgraduate education of single girl child in non-professional courses only.

b) to recognize the value of observance of the small family norm.

Scholarship Details : -

Level/Field(s) of Study: Scholarships are available for pursuing a postgraduate education of single girl child in non-professional courses only.

Study Subject: 
             Non-professional courses postgraduate courses only.

Number of Scholarships: No of scholarships will be decided only after reception of online applications.

TARGET GROUP:
Girl students who are admitted to various PG courses in the following Universities / Colleges and happen to be the only girl child in the family :
• Universities/Institutions/Colleges included under section 2(f) & and 12(B) of UGC Act.
• Deemed to be Universities included under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956 and eligible to
receive grants-in-aid from UGC,
• Universities/Institutions/College funded by Central/State Government.
• Institutes of National Importance.

Note:-Girl students without having any brother or the girl student who are twin daughters/ fraternal daughter may also apply for a scholarship under the aforesaid scheme. In a family, if one son and one daughter are available then girl child will not be considered for a scholarship under the scheme. 

ELIGIBILITY:
Age limit: Girl students up to the age of 30 years at the time of admission in PG courses are
eligible.The scheme is applicable to such single girl child who has taken admission in regular, full-time first-year Masters Degree course in any designated university or a post graduate college.
This scholarship is available to PG-I year student only. Admission to PG Course in Distance education mode is not covered under the scheme. 

Scholarship value/inclusions/duration:
The value/amount of scholarship is Rs.3,100/- per month for a period of two years i.e., 10 months for the full duration of a Postgraduate course.Other than above-said amount no other amount will be paid for hostel charges and medical charges.

Application instructions:
The eligible candidates are required to apply online through UGC website.  

The results of the selection will be declared on UGC website.

Awardees would be required to download their award letter from the online portal by logging in with the registration id and Date of birth in the event of their selection.
