The University of Derby is located in the English city of Derby. Formerly known as Derby College of Art and Technology, the institution can trace its origins back to the foundation of the Derby Diocesan Institution for the Training of Schoolmistresses, which was established in 1851. It gained university status in 1992. Derby city is located in the centre of the UK. London is about 125 miles south, while Manchester lies 90 miles to the north.

The university’s primary Campus is locates in the north-west of Derby and comprises three sites: Kedleston Road, Britannia Mill and Markeaton Street. The law school is located in the city centre. The university also has a campus located in Buxton, Derbyshire, which is referred to as the Devonshire Campus. Resources at the university include a range of facilities such as a spa, a hospital with robot patients, and a restaurant, which is operated by students.
