Update: The application portal is closed now.
Update: As per a notification by MCI, NEET 2017 will be counted as the first attempt for each candidate irrespective of his/her previous attempts at NEET/AIPMT.
NEET exam or National-Eligibility-cum-Entrance-Test is an annual entrance test for admission to MBBS/BDS courses in India. The exam was started in 2013, as a replacement to then AIPMT, following which it remained in uncertainty over its conduction. Twice in the small period of 4 years since 2013, the Neet exam has been abolished and reinitiated. However, in 2016, the honorable Supreme Court of India finally directed the NEET exam for admission to all govt. and private medical colleges (except AIIMS and JIPMER) in India, replacing AIPMT.
From 2017, the NEET exam will be the only entrance exam for all MBBS/BDS admissions at the UG level. However, unlike its previous counterpart, AIPMT, the NEET exam is a single-stage exam i.e. it doesn’t involve any Pre and Main exam. Also, as mentioned before, the NEET 2017 exam will serve as a single window for all medical and dental admissions in the country.
