Rehab Session #2 and Aftermath

Yesterday was a long day. My friend got here early to take me to rehab because her niece was coming to clean the house. It was, probably, another hour before the niece got here. Or maybe my estimation is off. Anyway, it was a while.

After the niece came in and was assigned the kitchen to clean, my friend peeled a couple of peaches for me and served them to me in my chair. She also kind of toasted a piece of bread for me and put avocado on it. I found out later why the bread didn’t toast. She changed the settings to 5 slices of bread from one and lowered the darkness from seven to I-can’t-remember. It got warmed up, anyway, and I appreciated her help.

She also unloaded the dishwasher and said I’d probably have a scavenger hunt to find things and she was right. Her efforts to load the dishwasher were admirable but I had to redo the whole thing after I had enough energy.

Showered and dressed, we set out at about 11:55. We didn’t have to be at the hospital until 12:30 so we were early. Sitting down to wait, it was another 15 minutes or so before I was taken back.

The session was as before except I was on a different arm and leg exerciser because a man was using the other one. I did more than I had the previous time and the therapist was happy. When I go tomorrow, there will be a man who will be exercising along with me.

After, my friend needed to run by the pastor’s house for a “few minutes”. I don’t know how long we were there. He came out to the van with her and talked about various and sundry things. I do know that my oxygen tank had to be switched to a new one and I’d used the hospital oxygen during rehab.

From there, we went to pick up a flower arrangement she insisted I should have. It’s beautiful and I’ll take a picture of it when I have enough getup and go. The florist came out to see me for just a minute (really) and we came on home. By the time we got here, it was 3:30. I was beat.

The niece was gone but she had signed for the packages from Inogen before she left. They were sitting on the rebounder where I’d said to put them. My friend offered to open them for me. I just wanted to drop in my tracks so I told her I’d do it later. By and by, I wished I’d let her do it.

The UPS box was a bear. I had to hunt down a knife to cut it open. The other one was just tape so that was no biggie. I got the double battery on the charger and a single one on the concentrator and sat down again.

Once I got all that done, I was too tired to eat but I knew I needed to. My friend had brought “meatballs”, green beans and mashed potatoes from the lady who’d brought the stir-fry, etc. I’d sent the latter home to her since I didn’t want to see it go to waste. I heated up the green beans and mashed potatoes and nuked a couple of the “meatballs”. The last was a mistake. It dried them out. I was going to put the one I didn’t eat back in with the other half dozen for later but I coughed all over it so it went in the compost. I had a hard time eating but I finally got it all down.

The convention was on so I vegged out and watched it. There were some rousing speeches. I’ve always liked Middle Class Joe and he gave an excellent speech. So did Time Kaine. That was my first time to “meet” him. What capped the stack, though, was Obama’s speech. After he finished, Hillary came out looking radiant. She’s had many hairdos but this was my favorite. It probably cost an arm and a leg to get it to look like that but she has the money and I don’t blame her for spending it.

I’ve had some intense coughing spells both yesterday and today. Last night, I upchucked a large amount of water and, probably, post-nasal drip that I’ve swallowed.

Today, I’ve been extremely tired. I went to the master bath to get some toilet paper and got as far as the bed when I had to put it down and come “set for a spell”. When I went to the kitchen awhile ago, I transferred it from the bed to the dining room. I’ll try to remember to take it the rest of the way to the bathroom when I have to “go”.

I put the Inogen on the floor in front of the love seat and tried it out. It got my O2 sat up to 96% on a setting of 3. I need to get a 25′ cannula so I can move around more while I’m using it. Otherwise, I’ll have to put it on battery and carry it around. It weighs less than 5 lubs but that’s still a lot to haul when you feel like I do.

People keep telling me I look good. I don’t know if they are being nice or if they really think I do. I don’t FEEL good. I’ve been coughing overtime and my rib cage is sore from it. My stamina is in the toilet. I don’t know how many sessions it will take to increase it but it seems to be taking it down a few notches.

DS1 is talking about coming with my DIL to bring me The Phone. I suggested they could meet me at the hospital and bring me home but he doesn’t think that will work. I guess if I lived a few hundred miles away, I could understand but that’s only 10 miles farther than my house. I’m ready to forget the whole thing. Cuz’ sister (also my Cuz) will have to drive 10 miles out and 10 miles back to get me and take me for rehab and then 10 miles to bring me home and 10 miles back to her house. Now, he says they won’t be here until 2:30 or 3 TT. I hope to be home before then. I’ll be pretty worthless, that’s for sure.

Well, I’ve got to get something to eat. It’s late but that’s the way it is. I weighed 6.7 lubs less today than when I set my goal to gain 5 lubs and I can’t stop the downhill slide. I’m just not hungry. I told my friend yesterday I know what would pique my appetite but it’s illegal. She laughed.

Here goes nothing. The “meatballs” have been heating in their water bath and the green beans are hot. All I have to do it peel a cucumber and heat the mashed potatoes. Where I’ll get the energy, I don’t know.
