If you have a Doggy that turns a deaf ear every time you order him a thing, then there has to be something pretty much wrong happening. It can be due to varied reasons like lack of discipline. The most important thing that you need to have is good leadership skills that can make your pooch seek guidance and respond to special commands. There are different things that can be done by dog owners to make their doggy listen to them through interesting things.

But before looking at it, you need to be aware of the things that you are doing wrong. This will assist you in taking adequate steps to make your pooch listen to you. Sometimes, the solution of the problem is much easier than it looks. Much effort and patience is required to make him capable of following your precise and consistent commands.

Let us now look at some of the logical reasons for your dog to not listen to you:

Reasons Your Dog Doesn't Pay Attention

He Is Distracted

You need to be aware of the fact that dogs have a very strong sense of smell. It is approximately 10,000 to 100,000 times more powerful than human beings. They also have a strong sense of hearing about 4 times more acute. Being outside to dogs is same as we are online. You might browse the internet to search for a perfect recipe only to get lost for several hours in the sea of status updates, catchy headlines and cute videos. Dogs feel the same way when they are in a location that is unfamiliar to them. There are so many interesting sounds and smells that vie for a dog's attention. So, now it might not be very difficult for you to understand that this is one of the reasons for your doggy to find it difficult in listening to your command.

If you want him to listen to your command even while he is distracted, then you will have to work on him in different settings and distractions so that he can follow you everywhere. But never expect a lot. For example; when you are at a dog park, never let him off-leash till the point that he has been trained to reliably come when called in different settings. Always give high-quality rewards in the form of treats, dog supplies & nutritional supplements and toys when training him in distracting areas - the smellier, the better.

He Is Rusty

Remember the time when you learned advanced calculus all year in high school, but after the summer vacations you can barely remember to do basic multiplication. The same thing happens with the dog. Without much practice, a dog's skills can fade away too. If it has been a long time since you have trained him on a particular behavior, it will make it very difficult for him to follow you.

The best thing to do in such a situation is to praise him for close attempts and then work hard once again to make him a pro in the previous skill level. While teaching a new trick, ensure that you spend 10 minutes on a regular basis. For stimulating him to carry out the trick, give him dog food in the form of reward and practice the commands with him the entire day.

He Is Frustrated

If your doggy is not able to please you, he might show the signs of shutting down. He may look away, lick his lips, yawn or start to scratch. All these signs point that he is stressed and frustrated.

When your doggy depicts signs of frustration, the best way to deal with the situation is by lightening his mood by playing with a toy or lying down for a snuggle. Even you can get frustrated and so, it is better to have reasonable expectations from your doggy. If he makes a mistake of recognizing your commands three times in a row, do not get frustrated. Rather, be patient and reward him for the attempts. Keep the training session short and spread out and do not forget to end the training on a positive note.

You Talk A Lot

We, human beings love to communicate verbally while dogs do it mainly through their body language. It can be a possibility to miss out on nonverbal cues when you are busy listening to yourselves talk away. This happens when your doggy does not respond to you the way you like in the first try. There are certain dog owners who repeat the commands and get louder and louder with each repetition. Remember, talking too much can annoy your furry pal. So resist the temptation of repeating the command when he does not respond the first time.

The first thing to do to make the possible correction is by observing the body language of your tyke. Try to find whether he is distracted, stressed, frustrated or is not able to comprehend your command. Before repeating  the command, try to find out different ways you can make him a better listener of your commands. It may require  ore practice, more treats or more patience.

Remember, it will take due course of time for the dog to listen to you. But with patience you can celebrate the progress made by him and enjoy the journey together.
