Baby running nose home remedy

So, your Baby has a Running Nose, and it is making you run out of tissues!

Have no fear; we are here to help you with suitable home remedies to bring relief to both your baby and you.

A running nose is extremely common in babies. This can be caused due to various causes, such as the flu, an allergic reaction, a head cold or a sinus infection.

However, it is extremely important not to rush out to the pharmacy and buy any over the counter medication especially for babies.

Doctors caution against using the medicine for your baby/child till they are at least four years old.

Home Remedies for Running Nose for Babies

You can try some of the following home remedies to help cure your baby’s running nose:

1) Honey

Very well-known due to its soothing effect, just dip a finger in honey, and subsequently let your baby lick it two or three times in a day.

You may have trouble restricting your baby from wanting more, but too much of honey may not have the desired effect.

This has the effect of boosting your baby’s immune system.

2) Steam Inhaler for Babies

In case your baby is suffering from an onset of cold and also has trouble drawing breath, get him or her to inhale steam.

Stand the baby up in the bathroom with hot water running.

Alternatively, heat some water in a wide bowl and make your baby inhale the hot steam for at least ten to fifteen minutes.

A good idea will be to add some eucalyptus oil to the hot water, which helps soothes your baby’s system.

3) Gentle Massage

One remedy which works wonders for babies is a gentle massage. Prepare a mixture of garlic in mustard oil and scoop it on your palms.

Gently rub the mixture on your baby’s back, chest as well as neck area. Don’t forget to cover your baby’s feet and palms with this oil for quick acting relief.

4) Turmeric for Babies

Turmeric has miraculous antiseptic properties and is known to effectively treat a viral infection like cold and cough.

Add some turmeric powder in a glass of warm milk and feed it to your baby each night.

This brings about an instant relief to your baby’s runny nose and aching throat as well. Milk, being a source of calcium will help provide energy to your baby.

5) Saline Sprays or Nasal Drops for Babies

A saline rinse helps loosen dried mucus. It is possible to either purchase over-the-counter saline nasal drops or sprays.

Alternately, you can prepare your own saline mix by mixing a quarter teaspoonful of salt in one cup of warm water.

Be careful that the water is not too hot! Use the saline solution to rinse the nose clear of mucus.

Then use a suction bulb to clear the nose completely, in case your baby is too young to blow his or her nose on her own.

Any of the above five home remedies for a runny nose, should bring relief for your baby.

However, in case the running nose does not stop after twelve hours, do not hesitate in contacting your doctor and asking for an expert opinion.
