Surely there isn't anyone who doesn't like the prospect of a clean and tidy home, as much of an effort it can be sometimes, it does bring with it lots of benefits. Personally I do make an effort to keep my house clean and especially keeping my kitchen clean as I do enjoy to cook a fair bit. You may just find Cleaning an unnecessary chore, but if neglected it can cause potential health risks to yourself or your family. The Mesothelioma + Asbestos Awareness Centre taught me about mesothelioma cancer, an unfamiliar illness that I knew nothing about prior to engaging with them. With their assistance im hoping this post will spread awareness to potential dangers in your home, including the toxin that causes mesothelioma: asbestos.
Mesothelioma is a type of cancer that occurs within the lining of the Chest, heart and abdomen.
Something that has really been brought to my attention recently is the amount of potential harmful everyday items we are exposing ourselves to. More specifically in our homes. It's a scary thought that we are unaware our homes could be causing serious harm to our health.
Mesothelioma- What is it?
Mesothelioma is a type of cancer that occurs within the lining of the chest, heart and abdomen. A large part of Mesothelioma develops in the chest forming on tissue known as pleural membranes which line the majority of our internal body. Mesothelioma is also known to cause damage to the abdomen and heart and spread to other parts of the body if not treated. Even though this type of cancer is rarer than others over 3,000 men and women are diagnosed every year. A statistic that is only going to carry on growing if little is done to create more awareness around this fatal cancer.
What are the causes?
The main cause of Mesothelioma is the exposure to asbestos. This could have been from previous or current work with asbestos based materials or contact with other products that include the deadly fibre.
List of items that may contain asbestos
A few years ago we found out that our drain pipes and guttering contained asbestos and had to have them replaced. I had no idea that these types of items contain such dangerous materials.
If you have serious concerns and believe you could be suffering with Mesothelioma due to previous exposure to asbestos, or would like to know a little bit more about the condition including treatment and symptoms then take a look at the following link:

My Cleaning tips
There are a number of other harmful items in the home such as chemical cleaning products and garden sprays. However you can ditch these for more natural items such as vinegar, lemons and even toothpaste.
1. Lemons, baking powder and vinegar make a great multipurpose cleaner.
2. Putting your sponge in the microwave for a couple minutes will kill a large amount of bacteria.
3. To clean a blender, add soap and hot water to your blender then turn on.
4. Toothpaste is a great way of cleaning stains from white shoes
