10 Scenic Ontario Places You Must Visit

At our physiotherapy clinics, we’re always promoting the outdoors as there is nothing better than getting vitamin D and physical exercise outside on a warm summer day. However, we also promote rest and recovery because if you’re looking to build stamina and endurance, you will need to take days off to repair tissues and muscles that have been active. This week is our outdoors week and today we’re highlighting ten Scenic hideaways in Ontario which you must visit this summer. Whether you’re recovering from a strict exercise routine or want to soak up the sun, here are ten places you must visit this summer.

Webster’s Falls – Hamilton, Ontario

Webster’s Falls is a 72 foot waterfall operated by the Hamilton Conservation Authority. Come check out this spectacular sight and watch the water flow down Spencer’s Creek. This scenic location has been the location for many films, most notably the 2005 science-fiction movie “Descent.”

Scenic Caves – Collingwood, Ontario

The Scenic Caves in Collingwood are 450 million years old and were formed via sediment brought by multiple rivers. Since these ancient times, the caves have evolved and become a tourist destination. You can zip-line, walk the suspension bridge or bring the kids out to the Children’s Adventure Playground located around the caves.

Sleeping Giant – Thunder Bay, Ontario

We did a little digging for this one and found a breathtaking scenic area in Northern Ontario that is worth the flight or14-hour drive from Toronto. Sleeping Giant is a formation of cliffs located on the Sibley Peninsula in Thunder Bay. The view from these cliffs are indescribable and nationally recognized as one of the Seven Wonders of Canada.

Niagara Falls – Niagara, Ontario

This list would not be complete without Niagara Falls, one of the biggest tourist destinations in Canada. These three combined waterfalls are 167 feet and there are always events for the family. Spectacles such as fireworks, Maid of the Mist, and tours make this former popular international honeymoon destination one of the most loved locations in Canada.

Algonquin National Park – Georgian Bay

With over 2,400 lakes and 1,200kms of rivers, Algonquin National Park is perfect for those who love to camp, hike, bike and more. One of the most popular national parks in Canada, Algonquin Park feature rare plant species, wildlife, canoeing areas and much more.

Scarborough Bluffs – Toronto, Ontario

For those of you who live in the city and just want to get away for a few hours, Scarborough Bluffs is the perfect place to visit. Bring the family out for a picnic and check out the sights that Lake Ontario has to offer. These cliffs are a popular destination in the summer and there are also trails for those who love to hike.

The Grotto – Georgian Bay, Ontario

Located inside the Bruce Peninsula National Park is a grotto which was carved by waves over millions of years. The Grotto is great for those who love physical exercise because it requires a bit of a hike but the destination is worth the effort. The Grotto is great for those who love swimming, hiking, snorkeling and camping.

The Rideau Canal – Ottawa, Ontario

The Rideau Canal opened in 1832 as a precaution just in case Canada and the United States were to go to war and this historic masterpiece is the oldest operated canal in North America. The water flows from Kingston to Ottawa and this is one of the most popular areas in Canada for those who love to boat. The 49 locks within the canal make it a spectacle that you must see this summer.

Thousand Islands – Gananoque, Ontario

Who knew that the 1000 Islands are actually 1,864 islands which are located on the St. Lawrence River? This Popular Tourist Destination offers fantastic historic landmarks such as the Singer Castle and the Antique Boat Museum. For those who like to boat, fish, or check out historic monuments, the Thousand Islands will not disappoint.

Elora Gorge – Elora, Ontario

The Elora Gorge, located approximately 25kms from Guelph is a popular tourist destination for those who love to hike, ride bike trails or swim.
