Can the Lemon Water diet help in weight lost, heal ulcers or just make great lemonade? Among its place in diet fads, lemon water diet is trending in part due to several entertainers. Originally called the Master Cleanse, Stanley Burroughs created this concoction in the 1950s as a way to treat stomach ulcer.

The Master Cleanse diet came about when a patient “who was suffering from ulcer for three years when he approached Stanley Burroughs and the lemonade cleanse was recommended.” The patient claimed to be healed after eleven days. Doctors were amazed. Many other cases resulted from the same treatment of lemon water and all experienced weight reduction during this time and the rest, as they say, is history.

With the lemon water diet, individuals are encouraged to forego any other foods and beverages except the lemon water for approximately two weeks. This stringent diet results in body cleansing as well as weight loss as reported initially in the 1950s. As much as 8 pounds per week are reported with drinking only lemon water for a short period of time.

The lemon water diet consists of: lemon or lime, maple syrup, cayenne pepper and hot or cold water. This drink is the only thing that is consumed for two weeks.

There are opponents to the lemon water diet stating that this only in the imagination of the dieter and perhaps weight loss is due to eliminating foods except the lemon water. Most healthcare providers do not believe that lemon water helps in weight loss. The lemon water only replaces the sugary drinks and sometimes foods, hence, resulting in weight loss.

Actress Gwynneth Paltrow and Housewife of NewJersey Dina Manzo are practitioners of the lemon water diet. Generally, we accept what a lot of entertainers do especially when it comes to looking great but should we be skeptical?

The problem with lemon water diet, according to some nutritionists, is that it is not a good plan. If you consider Gwyneth Paltrow’s plan that involves consuming only 300 calories per day along with the lemon water, the level of nutrition included in this diet is minimal and causes body flab and fatigue.

Proponents of the lemon water praise this diet plan because of the rapid weight loss; losing as much as 8 to 10 pounds per week. Losing weight is the end result of any diet so the lemon water quickly gets you to that point.

Drinking lemon water has it benefits as well as its drawbacks. Depending on your personal point of view, lemon water can help you to lose weight, heal an ulcer, or make great lemonade. Whatever you see in lemon water or any other diet is subjective just make sure to check with your physician before taking on any diet plan.
