Home Remedies for Dry Skin with Acne

The human Skin is made up of millions of pores on its upper layer called the epidermis. These pores act as moisture retainers and also excrete excess toxins and water from the skin in the form of sweat. This process causes three different types of skin in human beings: normal skin, where there is optimum moisture absorption; oily skin, where there is more moisture secretion; and dry skin, where there is excessive moisture absorption.

Dry skin absorbs all possible moisture due to which the upper layer becomes dry. This type of skin cannot use the available moisture efficiently in keeping the skin moisturised due to which the skin becomes rough, scaly and is prone to itchiness and flakiness. This type of skin needs to be constantly hydrated as the ability of the pores to produce moisture on their own is limited.

Causes of acne on dry skin:

Acne can affect those with dry skin too and the following are some of the causes of the same:

Dead skin cells:

As the skin is already very dry, dead skin cells tend to accumulate on the surface of the skin. With no proper excretion and ejection system available, these cells form clumps along with the dirt and pollution in the environment, to form large red pustules of acne.

Clogged pores:

Pores on the skin get clogged with pollution, dirt and grime from the air and seep into the skin. As there is no moisture in the skin, this will affect the inside of the epidermis and cause abrasions and scratches inside. In the absence of triggers such as sweat, people with dry skin tend to not wash their face as often, fearing soaps and chemicals will hurt their skin even more. This results in the pores getting too clogged up. With clogged pores, the skin does not get proper air and refreshment, thus acne is formed.

Damaged skin:

Dry skin tends to get damaged very fast with soaps and face washes full of sulphates. The skin becomes itchy and stretchy and this often results in flakes coming off and scales forming on the skin. This damaged skin, then becomes a breeding site for infections and bacteria that cause acne as this type of skin becomes very sensitive to any kind of external invasion.

Body temperature:

When there is no proper excretion of excessive moisture from the skin, the body tends to absorb all moisture leaving it dry, the internal body temperate becomes warm. This warm body temperature is a breeding ground for acne and causes lots of angry red marks on your face.

Stress:

Stress is a major trigger for any kind of acne eruption. Stress and a busy and hectic life lead to the secretion of stress hormones which are similar to adrenaline and hormones used by animals to protect themselves at the time of an attack. This hormone keeps us in an awakened state of alertness and stops all other bodily functions due to which the already dry skin becomes drier and causes acne to erupt, thus it is necessary to overcome stress and anxiety.

Smoking:

Smoking is a very horrible habit, the smoke from cigarette reacts with your already sensitive, dry skin to cause unwanted reactions on the epidermis. On the inside, the smoke causes more dryness as the body tries to compensate for the tobacco and the toxins, this flairs up the acne problem. Today we can easily find many natural ways to quit smoking as smoking is not only harmful for skin but also for the rest body.
