Mindfulness is the ability to be aware moment by moment of thoughts, feelings, body sensations and the surrounding environment. Mindfulness is important to fully live in the present moment and experience life. The practice of mindfulness improves intellectual, emotional, physical and spiritual wellness through being more connected to the present moment.
Mindfulness becomes easier with practice, the more mindfulness is practiced the more automatic mindfulness becomes.
The following are two basic exercises, focusing on breathing, to help incorporate mindfulness into daily life
Meditation brings many benefits. All is required is to retire to a quiet place and get comfortable. The traditional cross legged position is a great way to start but in reality you sit, lie down, stand, or adopt any pose that feels comfortable. Once settled, focus on your breathing. Once attention is noticed having moved away from breathing, simple refocus it on breathing. Continue this for at least five minuets and go on as long as you feel comfortable
Alternatively listen to guided meditations, an example is this website. Plenty of more mindfulness meditation are found online
Still focusing on breath, mindfulness can be as simple as focusing and refocusing on breathing during daily activities. The more this is done the easier it becomes and the greater the quality of attention becomes.
