Why do people with physical/developmental disabilities get mocked so often?
I am a volunteer for young adults with down syndrome, autism, cerebral palsy…you name it…and often, to my great dismay I have witnessed a good amount of people make rude or negative comments towards this community. I really want to know why? what gives someone the right to make have a good laugh when it’s at the expense of someone else, someone who didn’t really have much of a choice as to how they were designed to be? i don’t want to put anyone down, I’m just trying to understand all of this, something that is dear to my heart.
People make fun of them for three reasons:
1. They can. The people that they are mocking may not even realize that a person is making fun of them. It is the sad, cruel truth.
2. They are jerks. There are people out there that make fun of people just because.
3. They are pron to this kind of Treatment. They don’t know what is going on. Sort of like how Sarah Palin is easy to make fun of.
My brother has Autism and I see this kind of stuff all the time. It is very despicable.
