Capitol Seniors Housing Breaks Ground 84-Unit Community in Maryland

Senior Living investment and development firm Capitol Seniors Housing has started construction on Arbor Terrace Waugh Chapel, an assisted living and memory care Community in Gambrills, Maryland.

As planned, the $27.2 million, 72,140-square foot community will be operated by The Arbor Company and have 84 residential suites, according to a press release. Amenities include a bistro, library with a fireplace, multipurpose room, fitness and rehab area, salon and spa and a theater.

The community’s exterior was designed by Moseley Architects, while its interior was designed by Faulkner Design Group.

Arbor Terrace Waugh Chapel is scheduled to open in the fourth quarter of 2018. Capitol Seniors Housing is also building Arbor Terrace Maple Lawn in Fulton, Maryland, which is scheduled to open in the fourth quarter of this year.

Work Underway for New Watercrest Community in South Carolina

Watercrest Senior Living Group and Titan Development Real Estate Fund have broken ground on a 107-unit assisted living and memory care community in Columbia, South Carolina, according to a press release.

The community, Watercrest Columbia, is designed by LifeBUILT Architecture, and will include amenities such as a promenade, pool, fireplace, water wall, multiple dining venues, children’s play space, grand balconies and “southern-style” outdoor living spaces. The community will also have a “market street plaza” with a faux-outdoor streetscape.

Shiel Sexton Company will begin construction on the community this month, with plans to open the community in late spring of 2019.

Aegis Opens New Niche Community Near Seattle

Aegis Living on Feb. 10 will hold a grand opening celebration for a community built to appeal to older Chinese Americans in Newcastle, Washington, according to a press release.

The ultra-niche community has 131 units and spans 128,521 square feet. Some unique amenities include an outdoor amphitheater with seating for 80 to 90 people, an area for ping-pong tournaments, a mahjong room and a family cooking area with “huge woks” that can accommodate 30 to 40 people.

Aegis Gardens of Newcastle also was the 2017 Senior Housing News Architecture & Design Award winner in the “Best Assisted Living” category.

Illinois Community Opens Assisted Living Building

The Moorings of Arlington Heights, a Presbyterian Homes community in Arlington Heights, Illinois, recently celebrated the grand opening of The Highlands, its new assisted living building, according to a press release.

The $70 million expansion project first broke ground in June, 2016 and includes 70 new assisted living apartments, a new chapel and fellowship hall. An additional 20 assisted living/memory support apartments are slated to open as part of a second development phase next year.

Allegro Planning Grand Opening Party for Florida Community

Allegro Senior Living is planning to hold a “grand opening gala” for its new community in Winter Park, Florida.

The community, which opened in January, has 158 units of independent living, assisted living and memory care. Resort-style amenities include a grand fountain entry with a three-story skylight atrium; bistro; a patio with views of a pool and nearby Lake Ann; a stadium-style theater; salon and spa; and concierge service.

Allegro also recently opened a visitor center at its forthcoming community near St. Louis in Richmond Heights, Missouri.

Blake Management Group Opens North Carolina Community

Blake Management Group has opened The Blake at Edgewater, an assisted living and memory care community in Indian Land, South Carolina, according to a press release.

The 88,000-square-foot community has 68 assisted living units and 43 memory care units. Amenities include multiple dining options, concierge service, 24-hour nurse staffing, on-site outpatient rehabilitation, a theater; activity rooms, landscaped courtyards, a hair and nail salon, transportation and on-site parking.

The Blake at Edgewater was constructed by Frampton Construction and designed design by Young, Wier + Boerner Architecture. The project was developed by Cardinal Ventures.

— An affiliate of developer Blue Road is looking to build a mixed-use development with 175 apartments for seniors in North Miami, Florida.

—A new assisted living community with room for 62 residents is coming together in Sisters, Oregon.

— Locals in Bath, Ohio, are weighing concerns over a plan from Omni Senior Living to build a $20 million Senior Living Community there.

— A life plan community in Sun City, Arizona, is adding 146 new residences and a new assisted living care center.

— A building with up to 156 senior living apartments could soon rise from a site that once held a cathedral in Tacoma, Washington.

— St. Camillus is planning to expand its senior living community in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, with a 15-story tower with space for an independent living wing.

— A new 78-unit assisted living and memory care community is in the works for Carbondale, Colorado.

— The city of Mentor, Ohio, could get a 119-unit senior living community.

— Local officials in Hoover, Alaska, gave a warm reception to a plan to build a new 194-unit senior living community there.

— A new senior living community with 138 units is planned for Cary, North Carolina.

— The Alden Foundation has proposed building a 72-apartment independent living community in Niles, Illinois.

— A new Gardant Management Solutions community with 125 apartments could open in New Albany, Indiana, by March 5.

— Resort Lifestyle Communities held a groundbreaking ceremony for its forthcoming community in South Fayette, Pennsylvania.

— Work is progressing for a new independent living and memory care community in Munson Township, Ohio.

— Leisure Living Management recently opened a new $9 million, 44-unit senior living community in Grandville, Michigan.
