Baking Soda has many uses outside the kitchen. It has been a home remedy for quite a while, especially in the world of beauty. Some people are only now tuning in to the fact that Baking Soda is a great option for clearing up skin or cleaning your hair. Most commercial beauty products contain numerous chemicals that can damage your hair and skin, which is why we like making simple DIY products from natural ingredients.

Did you know that there are about 10,500 chemicals used in various beauty products? Only about 11% of those chemicals have been assessed for health and safety. There are some brands that use better ingredients, but it can be difficult to discern the good from the bad when there are hard-to-pronounce ingredients all over the product.

Benefits of Baking Soda:

  • Baking soda helps to balance the skin’s pH level
  • It absorbs excess oil from the face and helps to unclog pores
  • Baking soda contains antifungal and antibacterial properties, which help to remove skin-damaging microbes
  • It helps to remove blackheads
  • It helps to clean the hair without damaging it

  • 1 tablespoon baking soda
  • 2 tablespoons steel cut oats, blended

Instructions:

  • Boil the water and then pour ¼ cup over the red tea bag. Let this steep for 5-10 minutes, remove the tea bag, and let it cool.
  • Once the tea has cooled, mix 2-3 tablespoons with the other ingredients to form a paste. Massage this on your face for a couple minutes and then leave it on for 5 minutes. Rinse with lukewarm water to wash it off.

Acne Treatment:

  • 1 tablespoon baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon distilled water

Instructions:

  • Whisk all of the ingredients in a bowl until you get a smooth paste. Apply to the affected area and leave it on for 5 minutes. Rinse with warm water and then apply a small amount of organic virgin coconut oil to moisturize.

Baking Soda Shampoo:

Ingredients:

  • ¼ cup baking soda
  • ¾ cup purified water
  • 10 drops lavender essential oil
  • clean shampoo bottle

Instructions:

Anti-Dandruff Mix:

Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon baking soda
  • 5 drops tea tree oil
  • 2 tablespoons gooseberry oil
