DO WE HAVE TO TRUST CHINA?

The Chinese Government is so secretive that nobody believes them

As often happens when epidemiology is involved, this new Coronavirus with epicenter in the city of Wuhan, China, is generating panic, based mostly on incorrectly interpreted news.

The idea that they are not telling us all and other more or less imaginative hoaxes, such as that according to which the virus was produced in the laboratory, are circulating on the net and in the mainstream media, bounced from one part of the world to another.

At the same time, the good news is that the institutions of national governments, ministries, health institutions, universities, hospitals, and doctors have been doing a good job so far, compared to previous epidemics, to spread the real fact as much as possible via social networks.

The World Health Organization, in the daily report released on the evening of January 26  confirmed that the Risk assessment has not changed since that carried out on January 22 and the risk is very high in China, high at the regional level.

The good news is that despite the potential risk being high, with adequate security measures linked primarily to the airports we can stem any further cases outside China. The first thing to say is that it is the first time that a globally coordinated control system has been put in place.

Fabrizio Pregliasco, a virologist at the University, tells Valigia Blu Statale di Milano and Health Director of the IRCCS Galeazzi of the San Donato Group, that «We cannot rule out the possibility of a case in Italy, but even if we know how to contain it.

This new Coronavirus is certainly an alert, but beyond the numbers or the first cases that may have escaped, the current size of the moment is an outbreak, which thanks to the quarantine in China and air controls in the rest of the world, governments fighting to keep it under control.

As of January 31, 2020, the 2019-nCoV Coronavirus epidemic has affected more than 9,700 people, these are laboratory confirmed cases, 118 outside China and 12 in Europe -5 in France, 4 in Germany, 2 in Italy and 1 in Finland, causing 213 deaths, the latter all in China.

Compared to the case in Germany, the German Ministry of Health stated that at the moment the risk of contagion for the German population is very low.

The numbers change every day and there are many doubts that the data reported by the Chinese authorities are not complete, compared to the beginning of the epidemic.

The  current Coronavirus Cases worldwide are, 8,424,966 and already over 451,808 people are dead.
