Ira Israel - How to Survive Your Childhood Now That You’re an Adult

In 1985, the group ‘Til Tuesday composed and recorded their hit song, “Voices Carry.” As adults, many if not all of us “carry voices.” What I mean by that is within our memories, we store the voices and words of parents, relatives, care givers, teachers and others that left an impression upon us as children. As we strive for success and happiness in life, some of those recorded voices play back in our psyche with words like, “not good enough,” “not pretty enough,” “stupid,” “too fat,” “too skinny,” and other charged expressions that may interfere with the life we aspire too. Some of these recollections may be complete and real and some may be colored by perceptions that we embellished them with as life ensued. How can we move passed these old programs and live a true, authentic and joy filled life?

My guest this week on Destination Unlimited, psychotherapist Ira Israel, says we can and in doing so, accept who we really are, find our true calling and discover the path to authentic love that is our birthright. Ira is a licensed marriage and family therapist and professional clinical counselor. He holds advanced degrees in psychology, philosophy and religious studies. His DVD series including A Beginners Guide to Happiness and Mindfulness for Depression along with his sold out Esalen workshops have given him a wide international following. He joins me this week to discuss his new book, How to Survive Your Childhood Now That You’re an Adult: A Path To Authenticity and Awakening.
