Smart Phone Resources For You

There are a number of telephone helplines across Canada and the United States, some of which are staffed by volunteers and some of which are staffed by trained counselors.  Not everyone feels comfortable making these Phone calls, however, and not everyone has the privacy to talk freely.  So it’s wonderful to learn that mental health assistance is also now available via texting and downloadable apps as well.

Below are two excellent resources you can start using today:

  1. Crisis Text Line:  Text START to 741741 from anywhere in the United States, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  A trained counselor responds quickly and will, according to their website, “help you move from a hot moment to a cool moment”.  Please visit http://www.crisistextline.org to learn more.
  2. The Lifeline:  This Canadian mobile app, available for download in both Apple IOS and Android, is a national suicide prevention and awareness app.  One-touch dialing from anywhere in Canada or the United States provides access to international crisis resources, including online chatting, texting and emailing.  Please visit http://www.thelifelinecanada.ca to learn more.
