Using Foam rolling for Myofascial release

In the last few years, Foam rolling has  become a holistic tool. That can be used in all forms of movement and exercise.

What is Foam rolling?

Foam Rolling is like a myofascial therapist.  This tool allows you to target certain areas of your body to release tightness and muscular tension by way of massage. Foam Rolling allows self-deep-tissue massage; which helps  to stretch and loosen the fascia so that it can move more freely.

Why do we need Myofascial release?

The layers of fascia helps give muscle its shape. It is attached to tendons and bones; to help you pull, push, squat, run or do any other movement.

To enable these movements, muscle fascia is pretty solid. That is, to ensure stability, the fascia may limit our range of motion. Or give us that feeling of stiff, tight muscles.

When we work on strengthening them or use them a lot (in sports). They tend to become more stiff. Thus, myofascial release helps smooth out and hydrate the fascia.

What are the benefits of Foam Rolling?

1) Improves circulation: in the entire body. Which helps to oxygenate the blood, boost lymphatic drainage and flush toxins from the body.

2) Lubrication  in the joints.

3) Improves flexibility: Foam rolling reduces inflammation in the body. While increasing flexibility and range of motion.

4) Removes lactic acid buildup and breaks down scar tissue

5) Helps in preventing injuries

6) Speeds up recovery time

Myofascial release focuses on releasing muscular shortness and tightness. It  involves applying pressure to tight muscles/fascia in an attempt to release and alleviate pain.  It’s used to loosen up common areas of tightness, such as the Iliotibial band (IT band), upper back, quadriceps and hamstrings.

If you have still not tried foam rolling; Give it a shot..
