Simple Mindful Breathing Exercises

Slow Deep Breathing helps us in transforming restlessness to restfulness. But, our minds are vulnerable to the slightest distraction. Any external stimuli diverts the attention. Thereby, try these simple Mindful Breathing Exercises to improve one pointedness and prepare for meditation.

1) Focus on Alveoli (tiny sacs)

These tiny, balloon-shaped air sacs that are the workhorses of the respiratory system. When you breathe in, the alveoli expand to take in oxygen. When you breathe out, they shrink to expel carbon dioxide.

Thus, visualize the process in detail. With every round of inhalation and exhalation; the process becomes more vivid. Thus, helping the practitioner become  Ekagra. 

2) Connect with the Flora

The flora and humans are interdependent for the supply of oxygen and carbon-dioxide respectively.

So, with every inhalation visualize the trees giving you fresh oxygen. And with every exhalation, visualize the trees getting sufficient carbon-dioxide. After a point you can breathe in green rejuvenating air. And exhale brown particles to the roots. After a point the mind becomes absolutely silent.

3) Earth yourself

Earthing is a powerful technique to improve the body’s immunity. While recharging a person’s energy.

Visualize the spine like a tree. With every inhalation the base of spine is forming roots in mother earth. And with exhalation, let the tree branch out of the crown of the head towards the sky. This practice helps in grounding and mindfulness.

4) Recharge with light

Mindful breathing helps in relaxation and clarity. One of the best ways is focusing on a flame (Tratak). The other alternate is to visualize the light.

With every breath in, imagine a golden light rise from the base of the spine to the crown. While, the light comes back to the base when exhaling. The light becomes brighter and bigger with every round.
