Yoga Asanas to Boost Immunity

And it is the Flu season in full swing. The best advice I have received is to rest well and rest enough. After gaining some energy, there are some yoga Asanas to boost your immunity. Please note, these are not relaxation asanas, but asanas that activate the thyroid and the parathyroid gland.

Thyroid gland

The thyroid gland is located in the throat with butterfly shaped wings on each side of the larynx. This gland is vital in the homeostasis of our metabolic rate. This means it controls the speed of the chemical processes in our body.

In a way it works like a thermostat, as it regulates our body temperature and the energy production as well as. That is, the way that our body actually uses this energy. Among controlling how we sleep, breathe, digest our food; the thyroid gland plays a vital role in regulating cellular growth, repair and the waste process of the body.

Parathyroid gland

The parathyroid gland is located behind the thyroid gland. This tiny gland – about the size of a grain of rice – controls one of the most important elements in our body. The hormonal secretions from the parathyroid gland regulates our calcium and phosphorus metabolism in our blood. These elements have an affect on our bone heath, growth, repair & strength.

Yoga Asanas to Boost Immunity

Asanas that stimulate the thyroid and the parathyroid gland boost’s the body’s immunity.

Asanas where the chin is either tucked into the chest or collar bone.

1) Sethu bandhasana

2) Sarvangasana

3) Halasana

Asanas where the throat is exposed-stretched

4) Matsyasana

5) Chakrasana

6) Ushtrasana

Along with these asanas, practicing Anulom Vilom, Nadi Shodna and Ujjayi breathing are helpful in recovering the body and mind. Also, it provides the body with vital energy.
