We all know that Yoga is good for the body, it helps us destress and overtime it helps in overall wellbeing. But, in the long-term, practicing yoga consistently, instills the most basic and important life skills.
5 Life skills Yoga teaches
Focus is the ability to direct the flow of consciousness onto a specific object. With focus exercises like Drishti, tratak and the simple awareness of the Breath helps us learn to concetrate. Just imagine, if we could give our 100% focus to the task at hand. Life becomes more efficient and the results are more gratifying.
We are surrounded by conversation, television, gadgets, movement or just fidgeting. Do we look forward to just being. Waiting for someone, sit still and look at the trees. No current, well close your eyes and count a few breaths. But, somehow “Stillness” is lost. With yoga, we learn to relish the silence, stilness and just being.
Remember all the times, we react and later regret. It happens and its almost natural. But, with more awareness, we learn to respond and we don’t operate on auto mode. Also we learn the buttons that overwhelm us. Thereby, increased consciousness raises the quality of our living and interaction.
4) Stress management
In yoga, we put ourselves under possibly stressful circumstances. And with slow-deep breaths and focus on our mantra or So-Hum. We learn to manage it to the best of our abilities. And, we take this skill off the mat too!
5) Power of breath
Don’t be fooled by the simplicity of this life force. It is this breath that manages every cell and function of the body. So often, we forget to breathe right. Even the deep breath are so laborious, that it is futile. Thus, Yoga Teaches us the power of breathing right. An essential tool we all need through our life.
Yoga is a life-science. Thus, it is logical and the results have been tested. So carry yoga off your mats too. Let it teach you the simplest things in life. And, rest assured, life will never be the same (in a good way)!
