An heavily pregnant woman in Murang’a county who had said her last prayer was pulled from debris by her sons after a fatal landslide hit Kahwai village.
The miraculous action saw 12-year-old Oscar Waimiri and his younger brother James Maina, 10, refuse to watch their lovely Mother drown in the rubble that left five people dead on April 28.
The victim, Mary Wambui, who is due later in May, had her whole body buried in the thick mud except her head. The boys said they looked around and did not see their mother then started searching for her before a voice called out for help only to realise it was their mother.
“We looked around but our mother was nowhere. We embarked on a mission to trace her. Luckily, after five minutes, we came across some household goods. We heard her crying out and pulled her out,” said Waimiri.
Wambui said she lay flat on the ground so that they could drag her from the mudslide to a higher ground. “I cried out while I was deep in the rubble. I told my son this is the end of me. I know I have left behind kids but my boys also cried and held my hands before pulling me from the mud,”
