This is a question that I get asked often: “how long will it take my eczema to heal?”
I explain more detail on the answer to this question in this video (I filmed this video a while back as part of the 50+ videos for my 8 week group coaching program – which you can find out more about here).
The amount of time that it will take your skin to heal will dependon many factors, including:
How severe your eczema is
How long you have had eczema for
The treatment you’re doing and how well your body responds to it
This is why I’m often unable to give a definitive response when people ask me when their skin will Heal – because it depends on the factors above, which will vary for each person. From my experience, when the root cause is addressed, most people tend to take weeks to months to heal (although some of those who are going through topical steroid withdrawal tend to take much longer).
One thing that is important to note is that the skin is always the last place on the Body to heal.
When the Eczema is showing up on your skin, this means that the condition is usually chronic. And when you’re going through the healing process, the body will do whatever it can take to preserve your organs to help it survive. This is why your body will often heal from the inside out – i.e., it will heal your organs first (as they’re vital for survival), and then lastly, it will heal the skin (because the nutrients will reach your skin, hair and nails last).
Sometimes, you’ll also notice the places furthest away from your heart will take the longest to heal – such as your hands and feet.
Hering’s Law of Cure
Hering’s Law of Cure is the basis of all healing and it teaches the way that the body heals or cures itself. Hering’s Law of Cure states that your body heals from the head down, from the inside out and in reverse order from where symptoms appeared. Here is more information:
Symptoms of a chronic disease disappear in definite order, going in reverse and taking about one month for every year the symptoms have been present.
Symptoms move from the more vital organs to the less vital organs; from the interior of the body towards the skin.
Symptoms move from the top of the body downward.
“All cure starts from within out, from the head down and in reverse order as the symptoms have appeared or been suppressed”.
Hering’s Law is a very important law to understand and remember. One important thing to remember is that before we can even begin to heal we must believe we can heal. We must be mentally prepared and strong in order to allow the body to heal. We must not doubt the body’s ability to heal itself – because it can, when we give it the tools to heal.
Since our bodies heal from the inside out, we must also allow the body to cleanse and detoxify itself of the toxins. In order for the body to eliminate toxins, it must be allowed to do so by not suppressing any kind of discharge.
Most steroids for eczema and over-the-counter medications suppress the discharges. This can slow down the healing, as these toxins can go deeper into the body and create other weaknesses. The body should ideally be allowed to cleanse itself without the added suppressive measures.
“We heal in reverse order as the symptoms have appeared or been suppressed”. This means that most of the time, the last problem someone has is the first problem to be dealt with by the body in the reversal process.
Unfortunately, Hering’s Law of Cure is not used today in conventional medicine. Conventional medicine generally believes that by suppressing the symptoms or removing the organ (which is not functioning correctly), can cure the problem.
Remember that every person is different and it can take weeks to months to see healing. If you are going through topical steroid withdrawal, it can take over a year sometimes.
It’s important to not get discouraged!
You will find healing if you can address the root cause; it can just take time – but you can overcome this.
