What is nail fungus and what are the symptoms?
Fungal Nail infections are most common on the toenails. However the fingernails can also become infected. In most cases the nail infection can appear as a white or yellow spot underneath the nail and can eventually spread to the whole area if left untreated. Also during the infection, the nail can become discoloured, thicken and even develop crumbling edges. These fungal nail infections can be very contagious and if left untreated, they can spread easily from person to person. Usually if the infection is left untreated the nails don’t generally repair themselves.

How to treat a fungal nail?
Before applying the treatment, the affected hand or foot should be soaked in warm water for approximately 10 minutes.
Apply the ointment to the surface of the infected nail once a day. Apply enough to cover the infected nail areas with a thin layer of the cream.
To cover the infected nail with a plaster, gently place half of the plaster over the treated nail and then fold over the sides of the plaster around the toe or finger and press. For smaller fingernails or toenails, cut the plaster in half.
Fold over the other half of the plaster on the back of your toe or finger. Again fold over the sides of the plaster around the toe or finger and press. The plaster will fit like a protective cap over the affected nail.
Remove the plaster after 24 hours and soak the nail in warm water for approximately ten minutes.
After soaking, remove the softened infected parts of the nail using the Plastic Nail Scraper. Hold the plastic nail scraper firmly by gripping the broad handle (smooth and blunt end) only. Use the sharpened and serrated edge for scraping.
Clean the scraper with water thoroughly after each use. Keep the plastic nail scraper until the treatment is complete. Dry thoroughly.
Repeat the steps above daily for 2 – 3 weeks. Use a fresh plaster for each application.
After the infected parts of the nail are removed complete the treatment with an antifungal cream available at Pharmacy First
