Study Abroad Checklist

Have you received your acceptance letter from a foreign university of your choice? Are you now starting with the preparation to Travel abroad and begin a new life? Well! Now that you have been accepted by the university and the term session is on the run, check out our study abroad checklist. Our checklist covers every parameter that is a must on your trip to a foreign university.

No matter whether you are going for a month, semester, or an entire year, it is vital to keep note of a few things that will make your travel smooth and happy.

1. Passport

We all know that you will never miss your passport, but there is a reason we have added it to your checklist. Have a look at Passport validity and make sure that it is valid for travel. There are a few countries that ensure that the passenger must have at least six months extra after completing graduation or your degree course.

In simple terms, you are allowed for the complete academic cycle, an additional traveling time, and an extra six months for safety.

If you find that the passport needs to get renew, apply as early as possible. It may take around six weeks or more depending on the country.

You may also have to face embassy visits or form-filling. So if you want to avoid all this, make sure to apply as early as possible for renewal.

2. Student Visa

There are a few universities or schools that assist with the Student Visa process if applying for an undergraduate degree. However, the cases are fewer. Thus, it is better to procure your student visa yourself.

To get this done the right way, one might need to visit the embassy or get an appointment for your student visa application. Make sure you have all the documents including, a university acceptance letter, financial proof, the aforementioned valid passport, and a photocopy of your return ticket after completing the course.

3. Finance

Make sure to carry the local currency and do it before getting to the airport. Exchange rates are not the best at airports. Also, make sure that you have a bank account that you can access abroad and your ATM cards are valid for the duration. Also, update your bank about the travel so that the bank doesn’t block your card from noticing any unauthorized activity.

You can also apply for scholarships if you have fewer funds. Just make sure to copy the copy of your scholarship and other financial proof on board for verification. Do not miss on the financial proof as it is usually checked. Also, before departure, pen down your expenses covering accommodation costs, daily food requirements, and travel costs. Keep a note that you have enough funds to fulfill daily expenses.

4. Travel insurance

For most students, travel insurance sounds like an unnecessary expense. But in reality, it is essential. Travel insurance covers illness, injury, or theft that happens during your study trip. A few countries require health insurance from international students. So, make sure you check on the requirements before the date.

5. Medical

Get a complete medical check-up before boarding the flight and get all necessary vaccinations. Your health is a priority. Also, make sure to keep all your medical records in case ongoing care is needed. Keep a record of all your prescription and check out for pharma stores near your university to buy before your medication runs out.

6. Language

Fear not if you don’t know the local language of your foreign country. You can enroll online for local language classes before departure. Make sure that you know the basics in the beginning so that you can understand and communicate if face an issue.

Also, many applications offer comprehensive language learning methods to help develop good communication skills and learn a new language. Make sure you have updated one on your smartphone to use if lost in a new town or city!

7. Travel

Make sure to book your tickets in advance and look for a mode of transportation once you reach the country. Search online and compare prices for transportation. Make sure you are aware of all these facts, so that you have enough amount in your pocket on reaching your final destination.
