Starting the New Year Off Right

Planning to revamp your exercise program for the upcoming New Year? Take a look at some of these tips to ensure you stick to your New Years resolutions!

1. Be Realistic
While it is important to set goals, they need to be realistic so they can actually be achieved. Start off with a small goal like eating your favorite desert in moderation, not cutting it out completely. Short-term goals are easier to keep and each small accomplishment will keep you motivated to do more. This method is sure to set you up for success!

2. Plan Ahead
You need to think out exactly what you want to accomplish so you can visualize it in your head. Staying positive is key when planning out New Years resolutions. Doing this will prepare you to start working on your goals right when that clock strikes midnight.

3. Stick to it
Experts say it takes about 21 days for a new activity to become a habit and six months for it to become part of your personality. It won't happen overnight, so be persistent and patient! Always do your best, but don't beat yourself up over the occasional slip!

4. Reward Yourself
The best way to give yourself motivation is to have a prize waiting at the finish line. Celebrate your success by treating yourself to something you enjoy that doesn't contradict your resolution. For example, if your goal was to lose 5 lbs, treat yourself to new exercise clothing--not a box of chocolates!
