How often do complications occur after buttock augmentation?

Buttock augmentation procedures are commonly performed nowadays on patients of different ages and both sexes. Men and women alike resort to plastic surgery to get the buttocks of their dreams. The plastic surgery procedures performed to enhance the rear end are safe and effective when performed by a talented, experienced, board-certified plastic surgeon in an accredited medical facility.

The procedures that are recommended for patients who want an increase in the size of their buttocks are Butt Implant Surgery and fat transfer to the buttocks. Butt implant surgery is performed using gluteal implants made out of silicone, as the name suggests. The procedure entails the insertion of the implants inside the gluteal muscles to increase the projection of the buttocks.

Butt augmentation with fat entails the use of the patient’s own fat cells that are grafted to get a bigger butt with more perkiness. Lipofilling of the buttocks is actually a fat redistribution procedure. What happens is that the surgeon will collect fat from areas where it is in excess, process it, and graft it to the buttocks. The procedure entails smaller scars and redefines the whole silhouette of the patient as fat is often harvested from areas such as the abdominal wall and the flanks. There are multiple benefits of fat transfer to the butt, and it is less invasive compared to butt implant surgery. Also, the risks associated with it are smaller compared to using implants. However, it is important for patients to know that both procedures are associated with certain complications.

In the case of butt implant surgery, some of the complications that can occur are:

–    Delayed wound healing

–    Wound opening

–    Infection on the incisions

–    Infection in the pocket that accommodates the implants

–    Damage to the sciatic nerve

–    Misplacement of the implants

–    Rotation of the implants

–    Implant visibility through the skin

These are just a few of the complications that can occur after butt implant surgery is performed. However, the incidence rate to develop a complication is rather small if the procedure is performed by an experienced, board-certified plastic surgeon in an accredited medical facility. Also, it is important for the patients to follow the instructions of the surgeon to the letter to ensure good results are achieved and the risk of complications is minimal.

For butt augmentation with fat, there are different complications that might occur, such as:

–    Death of the fat cells transferred

–    Asymmetries

–    Fat embolism

–    Fat granulomas

In the case of fat transfer, the risk of developing an infection is much smaller as the incisions are smaller. Again, the risk of developing a complication can be reduced if you choose an experienced plastic surgeon to play out your procedure.
