How to Cope with Daily Stress

Stress is a factor that many of us face daily. Whether it’s Stress from work or home, triggers for stress are everywhere. A whopping 74% of British adults have experienced stress within the past year, including feeling overwhelmed or suffering burn out.

In the midst of trying to cope, many tend to neglect the importance of self-care. Though a day of luxury at the spa may be unattainable for some, it’s the little things we do for ourselves that can do the most good. This is especially important when it comes to our Mental Health. With April being Stress Awareness month, here are some of our tips to help with stress relief and self care.

1. Morning Meditations

During the week we usually find ourselves rushing between work, gym and home, often on the move from the minute we wake up until the minute we go to sleep. A hectic lifestyle can increase your levels of stress without you even noticing, so taking a few extra minutes in the morning to practice some quiet meditation can help in a variety of different ways, from making you more creative, more energized and better able to take on whatever your day brings, which in turn helps you handle stress!

2. Repair and Care for Your Hair

Somewhat surprisingly, hair tends to be a common victim of stress, which unfortunately can induce more stress for sufferers. It could be from pulling out hair, constantly touching hair, natural hair loss and everything in between. Our hair is an unfortunate target for dealing with our stressors in an unhealthy way. Not to mention, this also reduces the overall health of your hair.

To help combat this, implementing vitamin and nutrient rich hair care products are an absolute must to add to your regular hair care routine. Whether it is homemade or store bought; oils, conditioners and hair masks stimulate hair growth, provide moisture and nourishment to the hair strands and help with dryness. Overtime, making this a routine will improve health of your hair and possibly your well-being.

3. Turn that Frown Upside Down

You know the saying that frowning gives you wrinkles? Though we don’t know if that is entirely factual, it does stem from some truth.Consistently high levels of stress and anxiety can induce signs of aging in your appearance, especially in your face. Signs can include acne, wrinkles and dark circles.

Our solution? Incorporate your skincare routine into part of a larger self-care initiative. When using products like facial oils or moisturisers, remember to slow down and properly massage the product into your skin. The motion of massaging calms nerves and feelings of stress whilst relaxing your facial muscles. Plus, the feeling of pampering ourselves is always nice, regardless of whether you’re feeling stressed or not. Plus, moisturizers and facial oils can add beneficial vitamins to the skin to help protect against acne flares or inflammation caused by stress.

4. Take a Break

It can be difficult to find time to catch your breath during a busy week, but taking breaks is vital for your mental health. Make the effort to go for a walk during your lunch break to get some fresh air, as it can help you reset your brain and go back to work feeling revived and ready to tackle your workload. During the day, make sure to get up and stretch every few hours to relieve stress on your body from working at a desk all day. And lastly, try taking a break from social media, which can be a huge source of stress. It’s best to tune out from social media before bed to help your mind and body relax and prepare for restful sleep, something you need to wake up refreshed and stress free the next day.

Remember, don’t be afraid to put yourself first when needed. With Stress Awareness month approaching, be conscious of your mental health, your stressors and know when it’s time to focus on yourself.
