Your Hair has a Life Cycle as Well

It has been mentioned earlier that Hair loss can be a natural process, and you do not need to be frightened of it. But if it does not stay within the normal limits, you may be right to worry about it. However, to see exactly what is normal, it is good to know what a hair is going through before it finally leaves you.

The few hairs left in the comb, or the little new ones that you cannot “tame”, are all natural phenomena. It is also usual that you have to visit your hairdresser occasionally. These factors do not seem to be conspicuous in everyday life, but they support the fact that the life cycle of your hair is constant.

This cycle consists of three phases for each hair. The first is the growth (anagen) phase, which lasts for 2 to 6 years. The hair grows about 0.3 to 0.5 millimeters per day during this period. If you look at your overall hairstyle, it can be stated that 85% of your hair is just in this phase.

The second stage is the transient (catagenic) phase.  It lasts for about 2-3 weeks, with only 1 to 3% of your hairs being in this period. In this case, hair growth stops and the hair follicle begins to dwindle away, after not getting more nutrients. Finally comes the last stage when the follicle dies completely. This is a resting (telogenic) phase, for about 15% of your hairs. This causes natural hair loss, which is completely normal. At the end of the rest period, a new hair follicle is born and, while pushing the old one out, begins to grow. The cycle is complete.

However, there may be deviations from the normal cycle, which, unfortunately, may indicate a variety of problems that may be present in your body. You have to pay attention if, for example, your hair grows too slowly, or if its life cycle is very short. You can notice this when you experience a lot more hair loss, or you lose your hair in knots.
