If you are seeking to get more active and boost your Fitness levels, there’s no better place to start than your cardiovascular fitness. This is what gives you the stamina, endurance, power, and speed that you need to get your heart pumping faster and those calories burnt. Cardio fitness is the sort that gets you hot and sweaty. Do too much and you can feel like you’re going to throw up but don’t put in the effort and there’s very little point in heading to the gym in the first place. Take a look at these three simple ways to improve your cardiovascular fitness.
HIIT Training to Improve Your Cardio
While you may have a favorite piece of gym equipment, it’s not always a good idea to stick to the treadmill, the exercise bike or the cross trainer. You’ll find that the same muscles are getting the workout every time and you won’t be maximizing your fitness potential. Instead, consider embarking on some HIIT training across a range of equipment. HIIT is a high intensity interval training that provides you with intense bursts of exertion alongside short periods of rest in between. If working on the treadmill, you should set a gentle incline, sprint for thirty seconds and walk for thirty seconds. Do this ten times so you have a five minute workout. This sounds super short, but it is the intensity that increases your stamina and general fitness.
Add In Strength Exercises
It is the muscles within your body that are the work horses of any exercise plan you embark on. Your biceps, calves and hamstrings need to maintain their strength in order to work at their optimum. Get hold of some pull up bar wax and head to the gym and do some chin ups on the bars. Your triceps and biceps will be worked to tone up your arms. You can do the same sort of exercise with your legs on a specific piece of gym equipment. With larger muscles, you can enjoy running for longer or cycling up hill at greater speed.
To Improve Your Cardio Get Outdoors
If the gym is lacking appeal, why not enjoy the last of the summer days and head outside to get your exercise kicks? Cycling, running and walking are great to increase your stamina and build up your cardiovascular fitness. If you want to train for a marathon, it’s crucial that you get out from the gym and train in more real-life conditions. Get out in the rain, the sun and the wind. Enjoy building up your stamina by running increasing distances every week. Always have rest days and ensure that you take care of your muscles post-training.
Ice baths are effective at preventing your muscles from tensing or tearing. If you do find that your outdoor sessions are causing muscle pains or joint niggles, get yourself an ice pack and a hot compress to limit injury. If you do find injuries cropping up, no matter how trivial, you must rest before carrying on with your fitness journey.
Your cardiovascular fitness is something that you will need to work on throughout your lifetime. Get outdoors, do some HIIT, and add in some strength training to improve your fitness levels.
