Working out from home is becoming bigger and bigger in the fitness world. It has it’s benefits, that’s for sure, including privacy and convenience. You aren’t having to mind your manners every time someone tries to talk to you or be mindful of your butt sweat (c’mon, we’ve all been there). Plus, you can go straight for your Workout, to the showers, to whatever needs to be done around the house.

Many people think that they don’t have enough equipment to workout at home or that they won’t stay motivated. But there are so many options now, many with very little equipment required for Workouts at home to lose weight and build muscle. From live classes to keep you motivated, to fun workouts with a buddy, keep reading to find out the workouts you can do from home and lose weight.

Cardio

Cardio is the easiest type of workout to do at home that will help you to lose weight. That’s because it can be anything that gets your heart rate up and keeps it there for an extended period of time. This can be running around your neighborhood, dancing in your living room, or something more structured such as interval training and jumping rope.

Cardio is the best thing you can do for your body to torch fat because it gets your heart rate racing and cardio sessions typically last 45-60 minutes. Cardio will also burn fat after your workout session.

Weight Lifting

Of course you can lift weights at home, they aren’t strictly for the gym. Weights will require a little bit of investing but the most logical way to purchase weights for the home are to get a pair of adjustable dumbbells. That way you aren’t paying for multiple sets of weights and you save space!

Building muscle helps you to burn fat even when your body is at rest. That makes weight lifting a must for any weight loss Program.

Shadow Boxing

Shadow boxing doesn’t require any gear. That means no gloves, pads, partner, or bag is necessary – just YOU! And a good attitude. You are basically attacking the air. Or, as I like to do, using your reflection in the mirror as your opponent as you throw punches, kicks, duck, and dodge. It’s fun though, I promise, and the strenuous movement will make you feel bada** and have your heart racing.

Online Workout Programs

Full online workout programs with online streaming are becoming more and more popular. With brands such as BeachBody and Daily Burn, the options are endless. These brands focus on full programs that last for weeks and months, truly transforming your body and giving you meal plans to follow as well. All of this for a monthly or yearly fee, in the comfort of your own home. These programs typically require little equipment and nothing like the bulky gym equipment, making them home-friendly.

Live Online Classes

This is what I love. Something about working out live really makes you feel like part of the team and keeps you motivated. Live online classes streaming right to your device are a dream. Right now I enjoy using NEOU, but they are charging soon and I’m not sure what their fees are so that could be a major disappointment for me.

Les Mills is also a brand that I have enjoyed in the past. I used to do their BodyPump and BodyCombat programs before they created their On Demand option. Unfortunately, they now cost roughly $11-$12 a month. While I already pay for some streaming services, I would go broke paying for them all.

The possibilities to workout from home are truly endless in this day and age. I would only caution you to be careful and be sure that the trainers have valid credentials and if you are ever unsure, consult your doctor. While these services definitely add convenience, they can also add danger. It seems that every one now can be a “fitness trainer” or a “coach”, even without proper education and credentials.

The best thing to if you’re looking to workout at home to lose fat and gain muscle is to speak to a professional. They will be able to advise on the best exercises for your body type and if you have any goals, they will be able to help you reach them.
