Mu variant of COVID-19 virus highly resistant to neutralization by sera from convalescent

Research conducted in Japan found out that the Mu (B.1.621) variant of SARS-CoV-2 is Highly Resistant to neutralization by convalescent and vaccinated sera.

This particular variant of the COVID-19 virus was sorted as a variant of interest by the World Health Organization (WHO) in late August.

Since the outbreak of the SARS-CoV-2, the agent that causes coronavirus disease 2019, other four variants of it have been detected that have been classified as variants of concern by the WHO, including alpha (B.1.1.7), beta (B.1.351), gamma (P.1), and delta (B.1.617.2) that were first identified in UK, South Africa, Brazil, and India respectively.
