Why are you so tired all the time?

Feeling Tired or exhausted all the time is not natural, it can be a symptom of an underlying illness which could be related to your life style or any medical condition or any psychological issue.

Fatigue or tiredness can be broadly classified into two types

Physical Fatigue: muscle fatigue, temporary physical inability of a muscle to perform optimally.
Mental Fatigue: temporary inability to maintain optimum cognitive performance.

Some people feel tired even after getting enough of sleep, so listen to your body and mind carefully. According to Centres for Disease Control and Prevention more then 15% of women and more then 10% of men regularly feel tired or exhausted all the time.

There may be various reasons why you feel tired all the time, some of them are

  • Lifestyle
    Fatigue is a common symptom of several conditions and serious diseases, but in most cases it is caused by simple lifestyle factors. Inadequate sleep or disturbed sleep pattern, staying up too late, sedentary lifestyle, poor diet and dehydration or too much of exercising may also result in tiredness.

Eating too much of sugary products and carbs can cause a rapid rise in your blood sugar, the spike in blood sugar and rapid fall can make you feel exhausted. Drinking too much alcohol or too much of caffeine and eating junk food may also result in tiredness often.

  • Medical conditions
    Sometimes various diseases and disorders can trigger fatigue and exhaustion, If you experience prolonged spell of fatigue or any of the following conditions, you must consult a doctor. Anemia, blood sugar imbalance, thyroid, heart disease, leaky gut syndrome, chronic fatigue syndrome, sleep apnea, medications, poor metabolism and food sensitivities.
  • Psychological reasons
    Anxiety, Depression, emotional trauma, pregnancy, breast feeding and break up or divorce or death of a close relative can also result in mental and physical tiredness, always worrying too much and feeling insecure about ones looks or future can also exhaust oneself. Spending too much time on social media
    also result in fatigue.

Managing fatigue or Treatment depends upon the root cause of the problem, but one can always consult a physician who can suggest you certain medical tests to find the specific reason if the problem is much grave and affecting the physical health of a person badly.

For mental and psychological factors exercising and yoga can be helpful, also by changing our habits which serve no benefit to us one can improve his/her health like drinking enough water, maintaining a proper sleep pattern, eating diet rich in healthy nutrients and try relaxing or take nap for a while when you feel too much stressed about a situation or a problem.

Sharing your issues with friends and family will help you reduce mental fatigue to large extent. Drinking plenty of water or fluids daily, Pranayam or Breathing exercises can also be very helpful. Cutting caffeine, alcohol and sugar can help to a large extent.
