Acne Health: How to Deal with Oily Skin

Acne is one of the biggest problems for people with oily Skin. Because oily skin is known to produce more sebum than other types of skin, it has a greater tendency to develop clogged pores and Acne infections. The key to controlling blocked pores and breakouts is to control the sebum in the skin.

The right cleansing routine can help treat cases of mild and moderate acne. If you have severe forms of acne such as cystic acne or acne fulminans, then you should seek the help of a professional. Both of these types of acne require the use of antibiotics and prescription acne creams.

Step 1: Cleansing Oily Skin

If you have oily skin, you can use a soapy cleanser. This does not, however, mean that you can use a soap to cleanse your face. Soaps tend to dry out your skin and are not comparable to soapy cleansers. The drier your skin is the more likely it will break or crack and let in acne bacteria.

A soapy, gel cleanser is ideal for your skin type and is even better if it contains acne fighting ingredients such as salicylic acid or retinol. Both of these ingredients will help stabilize the production of sebum. The will also help balance out the rate of cell shedding and keep debris from clogging up the pores.

If you're the experimental type and would like to try a natural acne remedy, then you can make a milk of magnesia mask at home. Simply rub it in and rinse it off. It will strip away excess sebum immediately.

Step 2: Tone and Exfoliate

Not everyone needs to use a toner after having cleansed, however, if you feel that there is still residue on your skin then you can use a toner to remove it. Just make sure that it is alcohol free.

Exfoliating, on the other hand, is something you should do regularly. Depending on how old you are and the condition your skin is in, you should exfoliate at least once a week. To exfoliate simply choose a scrub or use a product that contains salicylic acid.

A scrub is a mechanical exfoliant while salicylic acid is a chemical exfoliant. Both types of products are a good option, but which you choose will depend on your preferences.

Step 3: How to Moisturize Oily Skin

You might think that oily skin doesn't need to be moisturized, but you're wrong. The problem with oily skin is that it has too much oil, but not that it has too much moisture. With this in mind, look for a moisturizer that is oil free and apply it twice a day.

Step 4: Spot Treatment for Blemishes

Spot treatment is vital to any acne remedy regime. Even if you are consistent with your skin care routine, it is possible to get an occasional pimple. This is precisely why it is important to use an acne cream to treat problem areas.
