Moisturizing Tips for Every Type of Skin

The best way to keep your Skin radiant and healthy is by maintaining a daily skin care routine. Although every step is important, there are several people that have oily or combination and that feel it unnecessary to moisturize. However, if you don't moisturize you won't be able to keep your skin hydrated, and strong.

All skin types need to be moisturized on a daily basis. Moisture refers to your skin's water content and not its lipid content. In other words, having dry or Oily Skin has nothing to do with dryness.

Fortunately, there is a product for every skin type whether you are simply moisturizing Dry Skin, oily skin, or combination skin.

Moisturizing Combination Skin

Combination skin is a mix of dry skin and oily skin. Therefore, it requires products that are specially designed for it. You can also try and use a product made for dry skin if you have more dry patches or a product made for oily skin if you have more oily areas.

Light Products Help Moisturize Oily Skin

People with oily skin should stay away from oil-based products. Instead, they should try water-based formulas which are light enough to be absorbed quickly without leaving behind pore clogging residue.

As with dry skin, it is also a good idea to apply your moisturizer before your skin is completely dry. Don't forget that skin dryness is all about not having enough moisture and not about having too little oil.

Moisturizing Dry Skin

Even though there are a lot of products out there for dry skin, it can still be a challenge to find the right one for you. First you need to determine whether you have regular dry skin or very dry skin. This will help determine the type of product you need.

If you just have dry skin, you will need to use a creamy moisturizer after you cleanse. Once you've discovered which moisturizer you need, you'll need to moisturize at least twice a day. If you feel that your skin becomes taut during the day, reapply moisturizer when needed.

If your skin still feels taut even after you apply a creamy moisturizer, it may be time for oil. You can use a mineral oil, body oil or a non-comedogenic edible oil (like olive oil). Don't forget to apply sunscreen if you are going to be outdoors.

A benefit of using an oil is that they absorb more quickly into the skin than do creams. This is one of the reasons that they are more effective for people with very dry skin. In fact, because they contain few additives, they can also be used on people with dry, sensitive skin.
