Alistair Overeem is a professional fighter of British origin (however, he is a Dutchman), who is known not only in MMA, but in kickboxing. His main feature is that he is the only fighter who has managed to win and keep three MMA and kickboxing titles simultaneously. Considering his popularity and huge muscle mass, suspicions arise whether he takes steroids.
Alistair Overeem’s biography and career in sports
Alistair Overeem was born in the UK on May 17, 1980 in a Jamaican and Dutch family. Alistair’s parents divorced when he was six years old. After the divorce, his mother took the children and moved to her homeland, the Netherlands, for permanent residence. Alistair had been fond of judo, basketball and track and field since childhood. When he was 15 years old, he joined Chris Dolman’s sports club. He attended it with his brother in order to be able to defend himself. At first, young Alistair did not like exercising, but after he tried his hand with Joop Kasteel and Bass Rutten it became more interesting to him.
In his youth, Alistair Overeem led a somewhat rampant lifestyle, more than once he got into fights and brawls. In one of such fights in the club, he had his face cut. In addition, he was accused of attacking a woman, but the story was ambiguous. The incident occurred after Alistair’s fight with Brock Lesnar in one of Las Vegas casinos, where an unknown woman accuses him of physical assault. Also, Overeem is known for having appeared in LMFAO video “Sexy and I Know It”.
Alistair Overeem’s career developed quite dynamically, he performed in different areas at different periods:
By the way, he defeated Vitor Belfort in 2006. However, in 2012 he had some problems with steroids.
Alistair Overeem’s suspension in 2012
In 2010, Alistair gave an interview to MMANews website, in which he responded to accusations of steroid use. “People like to invent something. I passed doping tests, just like all the other fighters. In the past, I weighed 235 pounds and I had to lose weight in order to meet the limit of the light heavyweight category to 205 pounds. It was terrible. Now I’m in heavyweight and I just do not need to restrict myself in food, “said the athlete.
But later it turned out that the athlete still had used anabolic. So, Overeem was to fight with ex-champion Brock Lesnar on December 30, 2011. The right to fight with the absolute champion Junior Dos Santos was at stake. In the fight, which lasted only 2 minutes and 26 seconds, Overeem definitely dominated from the first seconds and completed it with his technical knockout, hammering Brock, who had missed a mid-kick, with numerous hooks. In an instant rapid-fire interview he promised Dos Santos that he would be the next. The fight for the title of the absolute UFC heavyweight champion between Overeem and Dos Santos was scheduled for May 26, 2012 as part of UFC 146.
The result of the mandatory doping test, conducted on April 4, 2012, was positive: testosterone content in the athlete’s blood was 1.5 times higher than the allowable norm. The Athletic Commission of Nevada banned the sportsman to participate in competitions within 9 months from the moment of receiving the results of a doping test, taking into account the athlete’s arguments that such a reaction is the result of taking drugs for flu.
His return was not very successful, because in the first battle with Antonio Silva, he lost. After that, several more defeats followed, but in a duel with Frank World he managed to win such a welcome victory.
In 2017, fighter Mark Hunt said that he believed that Alistair still used “juice” in large quantities. Soon, Alistair responded to these allegations.
“I respect Mark Hunt, I have been following him since the championship in K-1, he is an outstanding sportsman, who demonstrates spectacular fights. I do not agree with his statements … I generally try not to focus on negative things and develop positive ones. I try to be healthy, eat healthy food, and feel well financially. I am concentrated on myself”, Alistair said.
According to Overeem, the UFC has a doping policy, and he fully supports it. The UFC can check him and any other fighter for prohibited drugs at any time of the day. He has recently been checked for doping several times.
Alistair Overeem steroid cycle
There are several powerful anabolic steroids that Alistair Overeem could use to increase his athletic performance.
Many of them have the same effect on the body. First of all, they improve the growth of muscle mass and increase aggressiveness, which is important for UFC fighters. However, some side effects of steroids are possible. In particular, these medications lead to a decrease in the level of natural testosterone and an increased risk of developing heart disease.
Here are some illegal steroids Alistair might have used (we do not know for sure):
- Dianabol. The main active agent of this drug is methandienone. It belongs to the group of oral steroids (steroid pills).
- Deca-Durabolin. The main active agent of the drug is anabolic steroid nandrolone, which can be formed in the human body after heavy or prolonged physical exertion. Synthetic versions of nandrolone are available in the form of injections.
- Trenbolone. This is an injectable steroid. It has a powerful anabolic effect, but it has many side effects, therefore it is not the best choice.
- Anadrol. The main component of Anadrol is oxymetholone. The way of administration is typically oral (in tablets); this medication is rarely injected.
