Gabi Garcia and Steroids – a Good Example of Drug-Induced Masculinization.

Gabi Garcia is a large woman who is engaged in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Almost no one doubts that she uses illegal steroids. In this article, we will tell about the life path of Gaby Garcia and how steroids influenced her femininity.

Life path of Gabi Garcia

Gabrielle was born on November 17, 1985, in the southern part of Brazil. Gabi was a very athletic child. She was fond of various sports, such as volleyball and handball, and she was a member of the local hockey team, which won major tournaments. Gabriella moved to Sao Paulo with her relatives when she was thirteen years old. Her uncle practiced jujitsu and she decided to try her hand at that sport. They went together to the gym, where they both developed jujitsu skills under the supervision of a trainer named Johnny.

Gabi won competitions one by one and at some moment she realized that she should make a career in jujitsu. She had a very busy schedule, studying at the university and every day attending the gym for training in jujitsu. After all, in the last year at university, Gabi took an academic leave in order to fully devote herself to jujitsu. At that time, she was already practicing with Fabio Gergel. Gabrielle had always very good support from her parents, especially from her father, who was an enthusiastic fan of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

Gabi always felt that because of her large size, most of the audiences in the tournaments were against her. Gabi Garcia’s height is 187 cm, and her weight is 107 kg. Spectators love battles in the style of David & Goliath, but are always upset when the giant wins. That was always an unpleasant emotion for Gabi. In 2009, Gabrielle participated in World Grappling Championship. During the entire tournament, Gabi struggled with an injured knee. She even wanted to refuse to participate in the final, because the pain was so very severe. Nevertheless, she had the courage to take part in the final fight with Emily Wetzel and win it. Gabi Garcia continues to occupy the highest positions in all the championships in which he participates. In recent years, Gabi has won World Championships, Pan America, Brazilian Championships and ADCC.

The main achievements of Gabi Garcia are as follows:

1) nine-time World Champion (2013 in her bodyweight & absolute category, 2012, 2011 and 2010 in her bodyweight & absolute category, 2008);

2) six-time Champion of the Pan American Tournament (2013, 2011 & 2010 in her bodyweight & absolute category);

3) four-time Champion of Brazil (2011, 2010 in her bodyweight and absolute category, 2009 brown);

4) Double No Gi World Champion (2009, 2008);

5) two-time World Jiu Jitsu Pro Cup Champion (2010, 2011);

6) ADCC champion (2011);

7) Europe Champion (2011 TOP champion among the black belts).

Gabi Garcia’s confusion at weigh-in

All fans of martial arts were interested in watching the weighing-in of Gabi Garcia before the tournament of the Japanese promotion “RIZIN” on December 29, 2017. The rival champion of the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu was 53-year-old Shinobu Kandori, an MMA fighter with extensive experience in sports. The Japanese athlete fell into her weight class and when Gabi stood on the scales, Shinobu began to scream from outrage because Garcia was within a margin of almost 13 kilograms (probably due to anabolics).

Kandori got frightened, screamed “Shame!”, and ran out of the room. Then the representative of “RIZIN” Nobuyuki Sakikibara came to the stage and said that there would be no battle. That wasn’t the end to it; Garcia fell into hysterics, and could not hold back tears even in front of the crowd of Japanese fans. Gabi knelt down and began to apologize:

“This is the first time that happened in my career, in my life. I knew that I had problems, three weeks before this fight, I had some problems with arterial pressure, my nose was bleeding, I knew that all the problems were due to weight loss. I respect her, I respect my rival, I respect you guys, she’s like a living legend here. I apologize to all my Japanese fans, I apologize to everyone. I am an ordinary girl. I hope that next year you will allow me to fight. Forgive me, Japan, I will come back stronger than ever.”

After that, there was a conflict between the athletes in the corridor. There was an unheard offence from Gabi Garcia, and it is not yet known what sanctions the Japanese promotion would take in response to it.

Gabi Garcia’s 2014 doping test

On March 26, 2014, the US Anti-Doping Committee released the results of testing athletes who competed at the 2014 World Cup. Gabrielle’s results were positive. In her blood, there was discovered a substance called “clomiphene” (belonging to the medications that are used during PCT). Gabi Garcia has repeatedly stated that she is against all sorts of doping. Every time, she stresses the fact that athletes should not take steroids and publicly shows a very negative attitude towards taking illegal drugs. After the discovery of this substance, the Anti-Doping Commission contacted Gabrielle to clarify the circumstances of the incident. Gabi insistently stated that she was not guilty and did not know that the medications she had taken before the championship could provoke a positive doping test. She said that before the tournament she had visited the gynecologist, who had prescribed her those medications.

The Anti-Doping Commission took into consideration all the facts and made the following decision: “Gabrielle Lemos Garcia’s doping test showed a positive result, but the anti-doping commission of the USA took note of all the facts that preceded the testing. The presence of clomiphene in Gabrielle’s blood could be due to negligent handling of medicines before the championship.” Thus, the Anti-Doping Committee confined itself to the deprivation of Gabi Garcia of the second place, which she received at the World Cup 2014, and decided not to resort to further penalties.

Gabi Garcia, Steroids, and Masculinization

In one of his famous podcasts, the American Joe Rogan (who also is a steroid user who “came out”) said that Gabrielle is clearly using anabolic steroid hormonal preparations to get the significant muscle mass she has. However, we will let you decide for yourselves whether she is using steroid drugs or not, as we do not have official evidence (like official doping tests or Garcia’s public confessions).

If you look at old photos of Gabi, you’ll see that she used to look more feminine. Now the athlete looks excessively large, perhaps because of the effect of masculinization due to the use of anabolic steroids. But it may also be the result of a “male” diet, genetics, and hard training in a gym.
