Valium Detoxification

Valium is the trade name for diazepam and is an anti-anxiety drug, one of several very popular benzodiazepines used all over the world. Many people millions of people worldwide struggle with benzodiazepine abuse, often without even knowing that they are becoming dependent on them.  Valium is often prescribed by doctors for a wide range of physical and psychiatric conditions including seizure disorders, insomnia, muscle spasms, alcohol withdrawal syndrome and anxiety issues.  In recent years the medical community has become more aware of the potential abuse of Valium, however the illegal sale of Valium has become widespread, particularly through use of the internet and overseas pharmaceutical companies.

If you’ve been taking Valium for non medical reasons, you are at risk of chemical dependence and addiction. Use must be monitored carefully to keep the user from developing a compulsive need for the drug.  Mixing benzodiazepines with other drugs can be very serious, opening up the potential for adverse reactions to a mixture of drugs, polydrug addiction, and increasing the potential for overdose. If you’re worried that you’ve lost control of your diazepam use, Step One Recovery can help.

Some of the symptoms associated with detoxification from Valium include headaches, tremors, excessive sweating, restlessness, insomnia, muscle pain, stomach cramps, numbness, hallucinations and seizures.  According to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, it can take as little as 15 mg of Valium each day for several months to start experiencing withdrawal symptoms. People who have taken more than 100 mg of Valium a day are more likely to experience serious withdrawal symptoms and complications, which is why a medically controlled detox is so important.
