Emergency call Handlers are at the forefront of dealing with crisis situations, and the stress they experience negatively impacts on their long term psychological wellbeing, according to a new report in the journal PeerJ. During this innovative study, researchers from the University of Surrey, University of Dundee, Anglia Ruskin University and Kingston University/St George’s, University of London investigated areas that impacted on the psychological health of call handlers. Previous research on how stress affects healthcare workers is largely focused on frontline staff i.e. paramedics and firefighters, however little is known on the impact on call handlers who make critical decisions
