I Tried Vegalash, The Lash Serum That’s All Over Instagram. Here’s What Happened

The post I Tried Vegalash, The Lash Serum That’s All Over Instagram. Here’s What Happened appeared first on Peaceful Dumpling.

As many devoted Dumplings know, I love trying lash products (remember the whole magnetic lashes saga?) *and* I love to experiment on myself—for the sake of beauty science, of course.

So when my Instagram feed repeatedly showed me ads for a non-toxic, vegan eyelash growth serum, I thought: 1) Instagram knows me eerily well—the Illuminati is real! and 2) Maybe I should try this?!

What Is Vegamour Vegalash Volumizing Serum?

I looked into Vegamour, the brand behind Vegalash serum and was pleasantly surprised by what I found. Vegamour is created by a small team that seeks to offer women a healthier, friendlier alternative to lash growth serums produced by big pharmaceutical companies. The company is also interested in doing good:

Southern Botanica, our sister company who produces the precious marula oil we use in our products, provides Fair Trade jobs to over 5,000 women in northern Namibia each year. Our goal, with Southern Botanica, is to expand the number of job opportunities to 20,000 by 2020. As part of our social mission, VEGAMOUR is partnering with Southern Botanica to fund a tree planting program in northern Namibia that will help grow 30,000 mango trees over a ten year period in drought-stricken communities without access to fresh fruit. (From Vegamour’s Our Story page)

Vegamour’s star product, Vegalash Volumizing Serum comes with some impressive promises. According to the product description, Vegalash is:

100% vegan, cruelty-free, and has been clinically proven to deliver thicker, fuller, lengthened lashes in as few as 15 days.

It also promises to be ultra gentle on even the most sensitive of eyes—unlike Latisse, which may cause permanent discoloration of your iris. I was certainly intrigued and was delighted when the lovely people at Vegamour kindly provided me with a press sample.

How Vegalash Works

Vegalash is designed to be applied twice a day to clean eyelashes that do not have oily residue from makeup or makeup remover. Although the product description notes that it only takes 15 days to experience a difference, I was encouraged to give the product two months to experience the full results.

Vegalash includes red clover to help make hair follicles fertile again and mung bean, to help strengthen the connection to the hair follicle. The company explains that the product doesn’t make your lashes do anything unnatural—it just helps your body remember how to grow full, healthy lashes.

Once your lash growth is well-established, you must continue to apply the serum, according to the company’s response to one reviewer’s question. Otherwise, the results will diminish over the course of a month. Le sigh.

A one-time purchase of Vegalash is $79.95. Vegalash also offers a subscription option that allows you to save 25%. (Every two months, Vegalash is delivered for $59.95). You can also shop for plans that include a lash primer, mascara, and/or oil-free eye makeup remover.

My Experience with Vegalash Volumizing Serum

For about three months, I faithfully applied Vegalash serum.  I came to really enjoy the ritual, and I did find the serum to be very gentle—even when I was sloppy and got it in my eyes.

Overall, my results were positive if subtle.

On the whole, my eyelashes seem healthier.

My eyelashes are a bit thicker—on both the top and bottom.

My eyelashes don’t seem much longer.

Before.

Before.

After.

After.

You guys, I’m sorry about the quality of these photos. I took the “befores” at our old house, and we moved in the middle of me trying the serum, so the “afters” are at our new place, where the lighting is different. Hopefully, you can see from the photos, however, that there was a subtle improvement in thickness.

My Verdict

While I really liked everything about this serum (the company, the easy application, the packaging), and I do believe it subtly improved my lashes, I do not plan to subscribe to Vegalash. Because the product is designed to help your body do what it’s supposed to, perhaps Vegalash may be most helpful for people who have experienced some hair loss and need an extra boost. (I was going through postpartum hair loss during this time—the shedding is no joke!—but I don’t recall PP hair loss really affecting my lashes.) For seriously dramatic lashes, I guess I’ll stick with old fashioned mascara.

PD EIC Juhea also tried a tube of Vegalash. Here’s what she had to say:

“It helped grow my lower lashes, which was definitely great. I started noticing a double level of growth as opposed to a single level along the water line, which had the effect of making my eyes look bigger and more defined sans makeup,” she said. “however, it didn’t increase the length of my upper lashes or give them any kind of curl/lift. I noticed mostly just increased thickness—would have LOVED some length/lift.”

Have you tried a vegan lash growth serum? What were your results?
