The news from The Star brought a shudders to me this morning.

Toddler home alone after family maid ran away

KLANG: A one-year-old toddler was Left crawling about in the garden under the blistering sun for almost two hours on Tuesday after the family’s Indonesian maid ran away.

This is one of the many cases we heard. Recently, we got to know a mom who had to face this unfortunate incident whereby the maid left the baby napping alone and got someone to phone the parents after running away.

As a group, we felt very sad that we mothers had to face this situation.

Usually, in our forum, we are bound to face some tensions when the issue of Maids were brought up. There are two train of thoughts. As the administrator, I usually try to refrain from commenting when full-time working mothers (fwm) and stay-at-home moms (sahm) debate over the issue.

The fwm will feel that the sahms are being too critical when they expounded on the dangers of leaving children alone with maids. Of course, these fwms have very good conviction that their maids are reliable and trustworthy.

Whilst, the sahms are usually very firm in their opinions because they strongly feel that mothers ought to personally take care of their own broods. Many of these sahms have left lucrative jobs, successful career and glamourous lives for their children.

This issue has no ends and best left to be dealt with individually. I am glad that I, as the administrator of the forum, have not been required to stand on either side. The issue on ‘Maids’ is a hot topic in MyMomsBest.
