TV show ‘BitGirls’ turns Japanese on to Cryptocurrency

A newly created Cryptocurrency-themed TV show in Japan has started this October 3, 2016. It is called BitGirls. The show aims in re-promoting the cryptocurrency to the Japanese community after the Mt.Gox incident in 2014. It includes a crowd sale which is hosted by Zaif exchange and a Blockchain voting system.

The TV show features a number of young women who will compete with each other through votes. The girls will show talents and performances in attractive costumes. The viewers can support their bet girl through buying the girl’s personal tokens or coins called ‘Torekabu’. ‘Torekabu’ is a combination of two Japanese words ‘Toreka’, which means trading cards and ‘Kabu’ which means stocks and shares. The tokens can be purchased through Counterparty, Zaif exchange, Bitcoin and XEM. The price of the coins of each girl varies depending on the popularity of the contestant.

Zaif exchange, the show’s producer aligned the show to British Got Talent or X Factor where viewers spend money to vote for their favorite contestant. BitGirls’ viewers are expected to shell out just to make sure their favorite BitGirl’s tokens will not decrease in value and eventually win the competition. Also, the audience can participate in creating the activities and content of the upcoming episodes through votes using free tokens given out by the TV show. The voting system will be transparent since it is using the Bitcoin Blockchain technology.

During the announcement of the show, CEO of Tech Bureau and an organizer of the show Takao Asayama said that they are developing a highly advanced blockchain techonology called Mijin. He also said that he wants to encourage the Japanese people to use cryptocurrencies by giving them a reason to buy, and such is through this Japanese style of TV show.

This type of entertainment does not really require highly talented singers, actors or performers but are earning TV networks millions of money.

The show have already auditioned ten BitGirls wannabee and there are already six revealed participants as of this time of writing. The number of the contestants is added every two weeks or depending on how the show goes.
