Mary Tyler Moore Show Mansion For Sale

Iconic US actress Mary Tyler Moore passed away this week. The 80-year-old star became famous worldwide when she got the part of wife Laura Petrie in the 1960s series The Dick Van Dyke Show. She went on to have her own TV hit too, with The Mary Tyler Moore Show airing in the 1970s. In a bittersweet coincidence, the mansion featured in that programme is currently on the market.

The Minneapolis manse, which was built in 1900, is a recognisable sight, with its grand size and classic turrets. In the show, the large home was converted into apartments, with Moore’s character living in a studio in the building’s attic. In real life, the four-storey property is a single-family mansion that spans 9,500 square feet, including seven bedrooms and six and a half bathrooms. Renovation work on the interiors have resulted in a large foyer with carved wood staircase, a wrap-around front porch and a large basement including a sauna and laundry room.

Variety notes that the home was actually first listed almost five years ago for $2.895 million, after its current owners bought it in $2.8 million. Now, though, the price has been reduced to $1.695 million.

Kathryn Bigelow takes hit on New York loft

Between Point Break and The Hurt Locker, Oscar-winning director Kathryn Bigelow isn’t known for backing down from a tough project, but the filmmaker has taken a hit on her Tribeca loft, listing the pad for $2.895 million this month – a significant step down from the $3.029 million the New York Observer reports she paid for it two years ago. The Observer ponders why she is keen to part with the loft, which is one of four units in a building that was once a film production studio, but making a hard decision in a heated market and rolling with the consequences? Maybe that does sound like the Point Break director after all.

Stanley Kubrick’s former holiday home is up for sale

Stanley Kubrick wasn’t a director known for accepting second best. From The Shining to Dr. Strangelove, he was a ruthless artist whose work was crafted with an almost obsessive precision. His taste in property, then, can be expected to be just as exacting – and that certainly seems to be the case with this home in the Dordogne. Variety reports that the estate, around 2.5 hours from Toulouse, has a main house that spans 4,300 square-feet, incorporating seven bedrooms, five bathrooms, a barrel-vaulted cellar and a large walled garden with swimming pool. Once used for the Kubrick’s family vacation home, the director’s widow, Christiane Kubrick, has now listed it for €1.485 million. Variety
