Head shaving

Tags: head shaving

We took our boys to get haircuts yesterday. My youngest son is extremely ticklish, so I generally have to hold his head still so the lady can run the clippers on the back of his neck etc.

This generally leads to polite conversation about one thing or another. This time, she asked me about Head Shaving.

Like most people, she could not resist rubbing my head. She prefaced her head rubbing by asking if I had any stubble. To her surprise, my head was a smooth as a baby’s bottom.

I do not mind my head being rubbed but let me remind you; just as it is appropriate to ask a pregnant woman for permission to rub her belly, so it is to touch a bald man’s head…

She asked me if I put anything on my head to make it so smooth. I told her I used a myriad of products from companies like Dome Care, Cremo, Dr Carver (from Dollar shave club), and Bee Bald [just to name a few.]

I totally shattered her thought that head shaving was a low maintenance activity. Sure, head shaving looks easy, but to do it right takes time, patience, and good products. I also debunked her myth that head shaving was cheaper than getting my hair cut (when I had hair.)

Finally, she asked me to describe the head shaving process I had used yesterday morning to get such a smooth dome. So here it is. Keep in mind I have been gifted many good products and I switch things up each time I shave. I do have my favorites, but I keep that to myself as everything I have been given is top notch…

Head Shaving 101

I did not use THIS much detail with her.

  1. I started my day with a nice hot shower. I like the water to be as hot as I can stand because it helps these old bones get moving. It also softens the stubble and makes for a much smoother shave.
  2. After my normal shower steps I began prepping for the head shave by using my head scrub and then my head cleaner from Bee Bald to exfoliate my scalp.
  3. Finally before I turned off the water I washed my head and face with my Dove Men+Care face wash (I use it on my head too.)
  4. After toweling off I stepped up to the sink and covered my head and face with a small amount of Cremo Shave cream.
  5. While the sink filled with steaming hot water, I placed my Dorco Pace 6 in the water to warm up the blades.
  6. I then shaved my head in my normal fashion. I always shave it twice and then I run my hands over it in every direction to find those elusive miss spots.
  7. After I was sure I was finished with my head I shaved my face, rinsed my razor, and put it in my Bald Fat Guy mug.
  8. I pulled the plug on the sink and bid farewell to the ugly unwanted hair that had just been expelled from my noggin… (OK that was bad,) turned on some warm water, and rinsed my head and face thoroughly to removed any residual shave cream. Then I rinsed it again with only cold water to close the pores.
  9. I patted my head dry and put on some Dr. Carver’s Magnanimous Post Shave lotion to reduce the chance or irritation.
  10. Finally, I topped it all off with a little dose of Dome Shine Anti-Aging Finishing Serum from Dome Care Solutions to give it an awesome shine.

As you can see, head shaving is not really any less work that having hair, but it is so worth it!
