Introduction – The Melo 300 Sub Ohm Tank by Eleaf

The Eleaf Melo 300 is the latest Sub Ohm tank to be marketed as suitable for ultra high wattage vaping.

As a moderate sub ohm vaper myself, I have been watching manufacturers over the last few months starting to produce higher and higher wattage capable vape mods.

Is there really a need for tanks that can keep up with these ultra high wattage mod? Can the Melo 300 actually keep up? Or is the tank going to be just another juice guzzler?

Let’s find out by striping it down and getting into the guts of the tank.

• *This tank is available in two liquid capacities 3.5ml and 6.5ml for the sake of continuity this review is based on the 6.5ml version.

Design and Build Quality

The Eleaf Melo 300 is built entirely from stainless steel and Pyrex and sports a wide bore Delrin drip-tip.

The quality of this item is very good and is extremely well made; I did not find any machine oil residue in this tank, all threads are smooth and operate extremely well.

What I will say though, this is one of the biggest tanks I own and compared to the previous versions of the Melo series it is no shrinking violet for e-liquid capacity nor that of vapour production.

How to Change the Coil and Fill the Tank On The Eleaf Melo 300

• It is recommended you empty the tank before changing the coil or risk losing liquid or generally making a mess.
• Turn the tank upside down and remove the Base
• Remove your spent coil
• Properly pre-wick your new coil by dripping liquid onto the cotton through the top of the coil and through the liquid intake holes on the sides of the coil
• Replace the new coil into the base and screw the base back into position
• Slide the top cap open
• Fill the Melo 300 tank by placing your bottles needle nose or dripping Pipette into the kidney shaped fill port and fill with e-liquid
• Slide the top cap closed
• Leave the Melo 300 Sub Ohm Tank for at least 10 minutes so the cotton has chance to soak up more juice
• Before you fire the Melo 300 it’s recommended you perform a dry pull. This is done by closing off the airflow completely and your taking 3 or 4 sharp pulls with your mouth (without firing). You will now be able to fire the tank on your mod as normal.

How Does The Eleaf Melo 300 Sub Ohm Tank Perform?

The Melo 300 Sub Ohm Tank disassembles into 5 parts (Inc the coil).

• Airflow and coil base
• Preinstalled ES Sextuple-0.17ohm Coil Head
• Pyrex 6.5ml glass tank
• Top cap, chimney and Liquid fill port
• Wide bore Delrin mouth piece

The Airflow and Base

Measuring close to 26mm the base holds your coil, it has two large adjustable cylon style airflows.

The 510 connection pin is gold plated stainless steel, the base also has printed on it the liquid capacity of the tank in this case 6.5ml.

The Tank

Sits over the coil, and is made of Pyrex glass and holds an amazing 6.5ml of liquid!

When I first tried to take the Pyrex tank off I had a slight problem removing it from the coil base because the O ring had sealed itself to the glass but a little hot water soon solved that issue.

The Top Cap, Chimney and Liquid Fill Port

Are in one piece that screw into the coil, the fill port is revealed by sliding the cap to one side as indicated by the arrow mark, the wide bore drip-tip tops the assembly off.

This tank was tested using an 80/20 homemade E-liquid I like to call Worthing Wood It’s a Wood Apple Cider with a Sweet Cinnamon, and sitting on top of the Wismec Reuleaux RX300.

ES Sextuple 0.17 Ohm Coil

100W

Starting at 100w, which is the minimum recommended wattage for this coil and the airflow half open the vapour I experienced was thick and the flavour was what I expected from one of my own e-liquid tasty lol.

10W Increments upto 200W

With the airflow fully open and taking the wattage up to 200w, in 10w increments, I found that up to 170w I could cope with the heat and very thick vapour that was produced.

At 180-200w, while still getting good flavour, the vapour was extremely hot which is not ideal for me!

Also chain vaping at 200w is not advisable as the tank gets incredibly hot.

So much so I couldn’t touch the tank until it cooled down some 10 minutes later!

I did find that the tank after 8 to 10 puffs had emptied at least ¾’s of the tank!

So it’s safe to say despite the 6ml capacity the Melo 300 offers this is one seriously thirsty tank!

My personal sweet spot for the Eleaf Melo 300 tank is around 150w to 160w.

What I Like

I love the idea of having a tank that can hold more than 4ml of liquid. I personally don’t like my vape too hot so was completely stunned at being able to vape without too much of a problem in the 170W range.

Filling this tank is a breeze with the slide liquid intake cover.

Excellent wicking! In the time I tested this tank I got precisely zero dry hits.

Direct to lung style of vaping with this tank is excellent. The cost of the tank is also relatively cheap.

I used this one coil for nearly 2 weeks and haven’t changed it yet so the longevity of the coils I like, however the tank was not my all day vape so I am unsure as to how they would hold up to a constant pounding.

What I Didn’t Like

This Elaef Melo 300 tank doesn’t come with spare Pyrex. It it can be extremely thirsty at ultra higher watts; I can get through a full 6.5ml tank in about 15 to 20 minutes chain vaping which can also make the tank very hot to the touch.

The cost of the replacement coils for the Melo 300 is at around £17 for 5 coils (cheapest I could find online).

Final Review Verdict

The Eleaf Melo 300 is a cloud chasers dream and the flavour is impressive too at higher watts.

If you like a warmer vape at higher wattage’s then this could quite possibly be the tank for you.

It would have been nice if Eleaf had included an optional RDTA deck for those of us that like to build our own coils!

I wouldn’t recommend this tank to any newbie because of the wattage’s involved in getting the best from this tank.

Would I buy this tank again if I lost or damaged it? No I wouldn’t… This is purely down to the type of vaper I am. Flavour and comfort are important to me.
